Does anyone know why you have longterm aneamia with a decompensated liver? My dads had it for about 2 1/2 years now.its the worst its been at the moment.
hes had loads of blood tests and scans galore.hes also had a crackly chest and cough for a year, which is inconclusive with a chest xray so is having a CT scan on his chest ,abdomen and large bowel next week.the hospital and gp are finally concerned about it ,but i feel they are missing something?
What about a transfusion? Im wondering wether to ask if this would help?but dont want to sound patrionising or a din for asking?
His bloodwork is shocking to be honest.his last bloods said his serum probnp was high which is indicating some level of heart failure due to his poorly liver.
I feel like im banging my head against a brick wall at mo!
Hi.they havent said as yet.hes been on supplements for quite a while and its still dropping.verging on dangerously low they said.platelets very low.no clotting factors.volume low.bonemarrow affected.been like it for too blooming long now.
Im wondering where they're taking bloods every other week (7 tubes) whether hes not replenishing the volume and needs a transfusion or something?
Last year he was so ill.bleeding from front and back end.nose bleeds.vomitted blood once. Maybe its just not replenishing?
He isnt bleeding anymore tho.thats all been sorted.just a nightmare! Hes so tired bless him.cant stay awake in the day so needs a kip.then up n down like a yoyo at night!

I had a lot of problems during the summer with being tired (way more than normal) and not sleeping at night and although all my bloods have been checked regularly they hadn't picked anything up. I was insistent because it was really affecting my quality of life, so B vitamin levels were checked and found to be ok. However, my ferritin level (iron storage) was at the very bottom of normal and has been for 2 years. Iron tabs are helping, although it might just be that the really hot weather has stopped, so I'm better anyway.
So it might be ferritin that needs looking at- just a suggestion, although they've probably already done that. Sorry don't know what else to suggest, but I hope he gets some answers soon. Do ask about an iron infusion- I had one a couple of years ago and it really helped, but there are risks attached to it, so they may not want to give it.

Seems hes a mystery at the moment...however,the ferritin was ok 2 years thats the last time it was mentioned.but i will ask again.
Thankyou

Wish I could be more help. Love the name btw. The problem with the liver is it does so many things and I guess that means they have a lot of possibilities to go at. All the very best to you both

All types of anemia can cause fatigue . Can you check his records and find out what type? Iron anemia is common in ALD. Stay strong love

I will try next time at the doctors when he goes to get the CT scan results.
My anemia is pretty bad too. The liver specialist has sent me for camaras up and cameras down thinking that I had internal bleeding: nothing found. I was put on iron tablets, and given the occasional iron infusion which was increased from, 6 monthly to monthly, but these have become less beneficial over time. The situation didn't improve. I was then sent to the blood specialist who suspects myeloma. I'm awaiting results as I type this
I wish you well with your investigations and do hope its not Myeloma.all the best to you.
They've mentioned the bone marrow being rubbish and not doing its job so maybe that will be in the mix after these latest tests.the doc was going to speak to a heamatologist because shes at a loss.
Dads had all the cameras,in out ,up down, last year when he had several bleeds.but thats all cleared up now.we will see what these results come back with.
My husband has just had a blood transfusion this week and is getting an iron transfusion next week. After seeing his doctor last week at the QE they said his hemaclobin leaves have been dropping over the years and his feretin was at 9 so now they said is iron deficiency, So that's why he so tired feeling unwell all the time and sleeping alot but up and down through out the night. So far the blood transfusion hasn't made any difference to him just hoping the iron dose .
Fingers crossed your husband feels better real soon.sounds pretty much the same as my dad.im certainly going to enquire about a transfusion .they havent said what type of aneamia as yet so guess we are just waiting xx
I am anaemic and have been for a while now and ironically ive had a cough for the last 6 years +, if u get an answer id love to know, im also asthmatic and that doesnt help in my case, good luck xx
Hi.yes i will update the post ,got ct scan next week to look at chest n abdomen area.then spyrometry test early the week after then the usual liver ùltrascan week after that..theyre looking at the heart n lungs in particular cos of the cough along with copd, and the scans are trying to zoom in on this blasted aneamia. Just wish they could sort something xx
