Hi

I would think you are entitled to it. I've got Nash with fibrosis, fibromyalgia, under active thyroid, gastritis, diverticulitis, IBS , spondylitis, osteoarthritis in my knees to name but a few!! I got standard rate on both. I'm no expert but I think you should get the enhanced rate. Love and hugs Lynne xxxc

You should definitely be entitled to it but it's not so easy I had to fight for 2 years to receive it ...

Ring citizens advice they will even come to your home to help you with the paperwork and if you do have to appeal (fingers crossed you don't) they will help you through that as well

I’d say so , save waiting an hour on the phone just to be hung up on or transferred to the wrong department, call Macmillan Cancer regards social help (yes I know you don’t have cancer) they will take you by the proverbial hand and guild you through , sounds to me you’d be entitled to the enhanced rate (£145 ish a week)

Good luck

B

hi Paisley71, I put in my application in November last year, I have NASH cirrhosis, portal hypertension now portal vein thrombosis, osteopenia, gall stones, arthritis in my spine and in other areas, lymphodema in my right foot and most recently a dislocated shoulder, plus shaking, tiredness, losing balance, unable to walk any distances. I attended ATOS assessment, got off on the wrong foot with the assessor by asking if she understood how cirrhosis affects people, replied by "I'm qualified to do this assessment", then she lied about the distance I could walk. basically I was refused, so did the mandatory appeal and was refused again, and now it is going to tribunal, no date, but they sent a bundle of papers which I have taken to a local advice centre who help with these things. But in the meantime my situation has worsened, so they told me to make a new application, which I have submitted, but because of dislocated shoulder I have not been able to write properly, can't dress myself, can't do very much at all. So no doubt the assessment will happen all over again... good luck with your application. We are fighting to maintain our existence, now we have to fight the system after working for years, paying taxes and never claiming for any benefits since I was 16, now am 58. I invited them to come to assess me at home, they would see the bloody mess I'm in because I can't do any cleaning. I'll let you know how it goes, success or fail, please keep us updated. I have been losing sleep over all this, and with cirrhosis you will know sleep only happens at the wrong times!

It's not the diagnosis but the way it affects you day to day with a group of very specific 'descriptors' ....... get help from either Citizen's Advice or your local council Welfare Rights department who will help you with the application and also advise what other benefits you might be entitled to. We had mixed experiences with PIP - zero scored at first face to face and upheld at mandatory reconsideration though awarded enhanced rate of daily living when we went to appeal tribunal. When it came to renewal a straight forward award of enhanced daily living and basic rate mobility.

Don't try and do the forms yourself as there are many pitfalls (including filling in the form yourself which if you manage it automatically scores you zero for some of the categories). I have used the advice from a website called Benefits and Work when completing hubbies forms.

All the best with it, Katie

Sounds to me like you are mate, i had to just fill out the forms for my wife and if you cannot walk far need help for meals and getting around you should get it.

only problem is it is up to the individual that assess your claim if you get a NO complane and keep annoying them

Get help like paisleyk suggests. You are entitled but it is based on how your condition affects your daily activities in the main. It’s scored very strictly so someone who is familiar with applications is definitely a must . Good luck and try to do it quickly as the process takes so long but u should get any benefit backdated to when you applied. Don’t try to be a hero it’s a struggle.
