And they won’t operate?
Anyone seen my hernia lately? Warning!... - British Liver Trust
Anyone seen my hernia lately? Warning!! Gross photo!!!
That's rediculous, it's appalling that they won't operate!! Why doesn't it surprise me?!? You could get in touch with pals
I know in December i needed my appointment brought forward, I was and still am suffering. I threatened them with pals, I got an appointment the the next day!! Please take care Lynne
We don’t have pals in Australia
You poor love, that's shocking leaving you that way! It's alright them saying they don't want to operate but eventually they will have to ( probably in a emergency situation)
Keep trying sweetheart because this isn't good you been left in that state. Xxxx
Brett, phone your local hospitals main /front desk and ask for the r number of a patient advicate/leason service, there is bound to be some sort of service like pals to go into bat for you. They are good at getting things done as the Docs don,t like the extra eyes on them. x
Let us know how it goes and bare in mind that the squeaky wheel gets the grease!. Good luck, x x 😃
What is the readon for not operating
They say that I could bleed to death during the operation and it’s only elective surgery not urgent.
In a similar situation to yourself. Bought a post op abdominal belt on ebay. Wear it all the time if I am working or knowing I will be on my feet all day as the hernia can be painful. The belt helps greatly. Not a resolution for you, but does ease the discomfort until they operate. (Which may be sometime, never)
Hi Brett11,
Sorry to hear about your problems with the doctors.
My husband had a hernia repaired after his diagnosis, granted it was much, much smaller than yours. Clearly I'm not a doctor and my husband's hernia was much smaller, but I would think the biggest issue regarding surgery is tied to your clotting ability and the ability of the hospital you would be using to manage a massive bleeding emergency.
Perhaps when you see your liver doctor he/she can recommend someone and someplace that would have the staffing and equipment to serve you better. I should have asked earlier - is there any possibility that ascites are [is?] effecting your hernia?
Hopefully you can get helpful recommendations from your liver doctor.
Best wishes,
Mary
My GP said that no one will operate. My liver is just coping at the moment and any operation will cause my liver to pack up and go on holiday again. Again, no operation until it becomes life threatening. On a better note, I’m being tested for type two diabetes as I’m in the very high risk category for it. My poo is off getting tested for cancer and my osteoporosis is being tested to see if it’s any worse. Oh and being tested for hepatitis B again.
Lots of tests all the time. But this is the world of a cirrhosis sufferer.
Cheers for all your help but back at square one again with the ever growing triffids in my stomach.
Brett
Has anyone ever duck taped their intestines to their spine? Maybe a nail gun could do the job? Lol
Love how you keep your sense of humour Brett despite all the **** you go through xx
It’s strange. There have been a lot of people passing on from cirrhosis lately on different forums. Seenig the pain they go thru is horrendous! Sometimes I wonder about why I bother and try and fight this disease. It will always win in the long run (without transplant). Is trying to stay healthy etc just delaying the inevitable? I try and help others by posting funny things or making light of this disease.
I’ve been following a bloke called Damon of FB. He is going thru absolute hell lately.
Sorry for the somber post. Just a bit down today.
Brett, that looks like ascites to me. A hiatal hernia that enormous would have already done you in. Also, it seems there are different kinds of hernias, including those caused by ascites: "Abdominal pain, discomfort and difficulty breathing: These may occur when too much fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity. ... Ascites related hernias: Elevated intra-abdominal pressure can lead to the development of umbilical (around the bellybutton) and inguinal (groin) hernias that can cause abdominal discomfort." patients.gi.org/topics/asci... You may not be able to open the link because of blasted international copyright laws. If that happens, let me know and I will send you the article, which is only one long page.
I have a 10cm hiatal hernia in the upper part of my stomach, just below my esophagus. It is not operable, so I have to control it with diet (basically: NO acidic food, nothing fried, no junk food, go easy on the greasy.) I don't like any of those foods, so this isn't difficult for me. It does seem to like expensive dark chocolate, lol, and I consume large amounts of liquid protein (at least 70g/day).
(((HUGS)))
Thanks for that. I’ll have a look into it.
