I’m not a doctor but your enzymes are raised….not dramatically, but your liver is showing signs of distress. 1 litre of whiskey a week is about 40 units and the recommended level is 14. Try to cut down or ideally stop all together. It will give your liver a rest. If you can’t manage total abstinence then try to have a few alcohol free days. I’m assuming that given you have blood results that you’ve visited the GP. If you haven’t then do go. They will be able to give you advice on your alcohol consumption and may want to send you for further tests…like an ultrasound, to see how your liver is doing. Don’t panic…it’s likely that these bloods can come back into normal range if you give alcohol a miss for a while.

As already stated, thats about 40Units a week. I am suprised at your numbers on that amount. The markers are showing some inflammtion. Mine were normal when I was drinking 40units a week, for decades.

You may have non alcohol fatty liver issues and the Alcohol is exacerbating it. Stop the booze and go for follow up tests.

I drink maybe 1 glass of wine a week. My GGT is 375, ALP 184 and ALT 67. They have fluctuated around these numbers for over6 months. Clear ultrasound, clearMRI, my HBA1C is borderline pre diabetic and my cholesterol is high, I am unable to take statins for obvious reasons. I do eat a healthy diet and am not overweight. all other blood tests are with normal range. Awaiting appointment with Gastroenterologist/ liver team, been waiting 12 weeks now.

I am 54, on blood pressure medication, LDL 5.1 total cholesterol 7.6 . HBA1C 46. I have long covid, over 2 years and the associated symptoms that go with that. I have been told it is secondary to my long covid diagnosis but how long can this continue without permanent damage to my liver?!

Hi, new to site and still learning. Why you unable to take statins?

Statins are known to raise liver enzymes, particularly GGT. As my GGT in particular is high, and has been for 8 months, the doctors can’t take a chance on prescribing statins for me. I am eating a low fat diet and having cholesterol lowering yoghurts to try and lower it another way.
