Hi, the only thing that works for me is ondansetron, I still use it every now and then. I hope you feel better and good luck.

Hi mercsclass, i was going to ask the same thing. Im 10yrs now with cirrhosis, but the last 3 weeks i have had awful waves of nausea .🀒.( and no chance of me being pregnant either. 😁) .

I used to think i knew all symptoms with this disease but am i right in saying nausea is one too. Even smells can start me off..food i used to like makes me heave.... awful isn't it .

Hi Linda, you are definitely right that nausea is a symptom. I really struggle with it and use Ondansetron and Cyclizine alternately. I think Ondansetron might be a bit naughty for the liver because I can only have a small dose and not often. There are others, Metoclopramide being one, but I'd have a chat with your G.P. Take care, love.

Hey Nick, thank you for your reply. 😊 . Isn't it strange after 10 yrs this is the first time i have ever suffered from nausea. I have an appt at QE on 1st may so i will mention it to my hepatologist. Oh my dr is useless. He will only tell me to ask the hospital .πŸ™„. Hope your keeping ok. Take care too .πŸ˜‰.x

Have you tried breadsticks?

I suppose that's like eating dry toast? .

Back in 2011 I started getting awful nausea, this went on for the next five years on a regular basis. I realised that not eating was making it worse. Its difficult because you get into a cycle of feeling sick so not eating then that makes you worse. Sometimes I would manage to eat a mouthful and in doing so be able to eat more, other times I couldn't make myself eat at all.

I decided I would only eat things I really liked, but strangely having always been keen on salad stuff found that very difficult, mainly I just wanted stodge type foods. By 2015-6 I'd lost so much weight ( I had a lot to lose), my consultant said if I didn't start regaining weight he would put me on those horrid food supplement milkshake things. He told me to eat full fat stuff and whatever I fancied as long as I ate. This worked and the more calories I ate in small quantities the more able I was to tolerate.

I've regained weight and am now able to eat normal meals, small portions but that's OK. Still have the odd nausea attack but haven't taken cyclizine this year.

I really hope it passes for you, take the meds regularly for a few days/ weeks rather than if you feel sick as then its too late. See if this helps to get some food in. I think its to do with the liver controlling glycogen synthesis to glucose when we need energy from stores instead of from current nutrients.

Take care and please let us know if it improves for you.

Best wishes

E x

Hi,

It sounds like dry toast but seems a little different to me. I read about breadsticks on a liver website but, unfortunately, I can't remember which one. I find breadsticks helpful, particularly if my stomach is "gurgling."

Good luck! Nausea really is horrible so I hope this helps.

Thank you tinypixie, .

Never has breadsticks so i assumed it was like toast.

I will go out and look for some tomorrow at Iceland or Tesco, or lidl as they are my 3 closest. Many thanks for your help. I have had nausea now in waves for a good few weeks. πŸ˜•.will let you know how i get on. 😊
