NASH, with severe nausea and vomiting.

Help needed? Do liver problems cause nausea, sickness and being unable to eat more than a morsel or two, when all other tests have proven negative. I have had NASH for a long time but recently I’ve lost nearly 3 stones in 6 months caused by the nausea and sickness and exacerbated by more recent pain from a horrible biopsy I had on my tongue. In other words, can the NASH have changed, having this effect, with no major changes in LFTs, despite all LFTs being much higher than normal and GP completely unconcerned and, indeed, indifferent.

Hi

I was diagnosed with Nash November 2016. Have recently started feeling very sickly all the time. I find trying to eat little and often is helping me a little bit. I'm also in so much pain with it too. Please take care , Lynne xx

Where is your pain? NASH doesn’t usually cause any pain unless it has progressed to something more serious (ie. cirrhosis). It is feasible that your pain may be caused by something other than NASH. Just something to think about.

Sorry to interrupt but my pain is in upper right quadrant. My consultant says pain caused by liver being extra large and stretched the capsule around it which is the thing that gives you pain and not the liver. Xxxx

Following on from my previous question about nausea, sickness and so on, my daughter spoke to me today and suggested that all my symptoms are typical of someone with Stomach Cancer which may well have spread to the liver, hence the problems in the two areas. Obviously I don’t want to have Stomach cancer but my symptoms do certainly fit. I wrote this week to the Diabetic Consultant I am under for Insulin dependent type 2 Diabetes. The purpose of my letter was to draw her attention to the fact that I can’t take my insulin because of not eating and needed her advice. I copied the letter to the GP. Included therein is a list of my current symptoms which almost shout out stomach cancer. However, to proceed further , to find out if it is, what do I do? Should I tell the Diabetic Consultant and GP what my daughter suspects, or, should I wait for it to dawn on them (if ever), that this might possibly be the cause of all my symptoms? I should tell you that, in the last year I have been fast tracked for 4 cancer scares. All proved negative thankfully but I’m frightened and embarrassed to natter the medics again. Unfortunately though my symptoms are, literally getting worse by the hour. Vomiting blood, can’t eat or hardly drink, lost 3 stones in 6 months, lost appetite, small pain in upper central area of abdomen, between naval and boobs, feeling wretched with continuous nausea (24 hours a day now) and intermittent throwing up, mostly of blood and phlegm because there’s no new food inside me. I feel a sense of urgency about all this but don’t know what to do. I’m really quite poorly and, along with associated NASH, and GGTs in the thousands, the doctors don’t seem to be worried about any of this. Am I being neglected? My GP is convinced my problems are all psychological and I know my body, and know this is not true. I don’t know what else to do?

I think you need to demand that you are seen by a surgeon asap. Take your daughter with you, tell them you will put in a complaint if you need to. Also, if consultant starts messing you about thresten him with pals, it's surprising how quick they move.

I was getting nowhere fast before Christmas, threatened them with pals and they phoned me with an appointment for the next day!!, Please take care. Lots of love Lynne xxxx

Thank you Lynne, unfortunately my daughter lives 260 miles from me so I can’t take her with me. I’m going to see if someone contacts me in the morning. If I vomit blood again as I have been doing, I can’t let it go on much longer. I am hoping though that some medic I have informed of all this stuff will be proactive tomorrow and get back to me, hopefully so that I can get an endoscopy done quickly as that’s the only test that will give me some answers.

I wrote everything down on 4 pages of A4. Gave it to GPsurgery at 8am yesterday. At 6.40 got phone call from Surgery. They are referring me quickly to Gastroenterologist. I have no fight left in me. Don’t really care what happens anymore.

If you continue to throw up blood or are passing it from your rear end don't wait for GP and referrals this is an emergency and does require urgent attention - in that circumstance A&E is warranted............ even take some of the bloody vomit with you if people are doubting your symptoms.

My hubby threw up blood twice in April 2012 and we went straight to A&E and it turned out he had a life threatening upper GI bleed with 7 burst varices. Up until then we never even knew he was poorly and certainly never suspected he had cirrhosis of the liver.

Get to hospital if it continues.
