TACE

Just a quick question does anyone know if you can only have TACE if your liver is healthy

Since HCC often comes about as a result of cirrhosis it is possible for you to have TACE even with cirrhosis, however, I found this page about TACE ( cancer.ca/en/cancer-informa... ) and it states you have to have good liver function and not have ascites or any issues with the portal vein.

My husband has been scheduled twice to have TACE but the first time he had too much fluid around his liver and last week they tried again but couldn’t do the procedure due to discovering he has twisted veins. He has cirrhosis but for him he will not be able to have TACE

My husband is in similar situation they said cant do tace due to cirrhosis and fluid around liver they have upped his water tablets he is now on 380 mg a day its so upsetting

It’s awful, my husband is on the liver transplant list so just hope he gets a call soon. Is your husband on the transplant list?

No we went to birmingham 2 weeks ago was referred from our local hosp because he had heart attack two yrs ago he cant be transplanted but now one tumour has grown to 6 cms, he had ablation last may but tumours regrown in same place like you am totally distraught. I hope your husband gets a call soon are you in thE UK karen

Ah that’s awful, yes we are in the uk, my husband is under the care of St James in Leeds
