I have osteoporosis and severe arthritis of the hip. I have been prescribed Diclofenac gel, which greatly eases my pain. However, I have read that Diclofenac taken orally is not recommended for cirrhosis sufferers. Does anyone know if it is equally harmful when applied to the skin? It works wonders for my arthritis and I dread a return to all that pain if I stop using it. Please don't refer me to my GP - IF I can get an appointment she won't have an answer. Thanks lots if you can shed any light.

If you can't speak to the doctor just have a chat with your local pharmacist. hey should be able to tell you how it is absorbed in the body and whether it would have any effect. I was told it wouldn't but i still wasn't prepared to risk it as i'd had a reaction to the oral diclofenac previously. So best advice, check with the pharmacist.
Hi Kristian - I should have mentioned that I'm currently in India. It was here that I had xrays on my spine and hips as I was in so much pain I could hardly walk. The consultant surgeon - excellent - prescribed the gel, along with calcium and other supplements. I'm home on 12th March and will definitely check this out with pharmacist.
