Hello yes I've had 2 liver resections. The first one was major in that I had a large percentage of my liver removed. The 2nd one I just had a small piece removed.

I'm all good now though apart from a large scar across my abdomen. It doesn't stop me doing anything though.

If you've got any specific questions i would be pleased to try and answer them :)

I have a large cyst that needs to be removed by resection so wondering how difficult it will be

It depends on whether it's an open surgery or not. Has the surgeon said ?

If it's done by laparoscopy then the recovery time will be a lot shorter.

I need to have open operation because cyst is very big

Oh ok. Well it is major surgery. I was only in hospital for 4 days afterwards but some Drs want you to stay longer.

Are you having it done by a general surgeon or a liver surgeon?

My first op was done by a general surgeon and subsequent surgeries have been done by a liver surgeon. The difference in my recovery was amazing. So hopefully you are under the care of a liver team.

I'm still scanned quite often but I live a fairly normal life.

The cancer was only found after I'd had the tumour removed.

They told me it was benign so I had put the surgery off for quite a while.

Do you have someone to help you at home? You may need help with housework etc for a little while after surgery.

Yes my husband will help. It’s good to hear you are ok after 2 reactions. I don,t know how much of my liver has to be removed yet. But I am very nervous. I am on blood thinners also and had blood clots severalmonths ago so we r waitinga bit so I can go off the meds

I was in hospital for 4 days I felt rough for about 2-3 weeks after coming out of hospital and slept a lot. I took about 6 weeks off work to recuperate. I feel fine now other than having a scar you would never know I had the surgery.
