UK - Liver Resection

I'm having my liver resection on Friday 18th August to remove HCC and I'm just falling apart. I'm so scared and nervous. I feel sick, I'm bloated (from stress), I feel I have no desire to eat properly so I'm eating the wrong foods. I'm getting heart burn too. I'm convinced it's all anxiety related to the surgery. I just feel a mess and so teary.

Sorry - no question. I just needed to share.

Hi BumbleCat, sending you good vibes and prayers. Have faith and hope and always think positive that everything will work out fine. Picture your surgery going perfectly and you getting better!

Do stuff you love in meantime, paint, draw, listen to music, enjoy time with friends or simply go for a walk and enjoy this beautiful earth we live in. Sending big hugs🫂.

Hi BumbleCat. Do you know what the process involves and how long the surgery will take? Have faith in the guys that are doing your surgery. These people are skilled and do this everyday. The HCC has been diagnosed and is going to be treated which is fantastic. If you don't meditate I would recommend it. It will take your mind to a different place and away from Friday. I'll hold a good thought for you xx

Lovely Bumblecat, keep busy to take your mind off Friday and look after yourself as best you can. Do trust your team they are going to give you their best, they know what they are doing and have done so for many before you. Yes there are risks and they have too warn you but they will do everything possible for your best outcome. Our surgeons are amazing at what they do, my husband had a transplant just 6 weeks ago and I so remember his eyes when I left him in their care…..”a rabbit in the headlights” The team that looked after him were and are incredible, have been there every step and he is doing really well. I know it is not the quite the same, phone and speak to the Liver Trust Nurses Helpline, I did when things were overwhelming and I didn’t know who to turn too. They are kind and reassuring, they talked through my concerns helping me through those difficult moments. Take care my lovely wishing all the best xxxxx

Hi........ I've had 2 liver resections. The first at back end of 2017 and second mid 2018 both for HCC. I was like you and beyond myself so totally understand how your feeling at this moment in time however you've got this and can do it💪👌❤️It is sore post op and you'll feel very delicate both mentally and physically but trust your team and the more you move around the easier it gets and speeds up the recovery 👌It is a big op so also remember to be kind to yourself and take the small wins every day!

Good luck and keep us posted...... sending lots of positive vibes your way ❤️x

Hi there, I was in exactly same place as you in March, I had HCC removed, I was so stressed I kept pacing all night the night before and so anxious it was unreal. The truth it went better than planned I wasn’t in much pain at all (and I don’t do pain) my liver did play up afterwards but the Dr’s at Southampton looked after me well to get it right again. I came home 6 days later. Afterwards take it steady, drink lots of water and move about (slowly). All the best
