I’m not sure if I’m posting the right way?
Hi: I’m not sure if I’m posting the... - British Liver Trust
Hi
Yep, you are...both your messages have posted successfully. Your first one is exactly what this forum is about, so welcome and we'll done on the sobriety. Hopefully the mutual support will be beneficial all round.
Thanks for your replies. I’m still getting my head around this forum lol. I as a very heavy drinker a few years ago. I stopped it the day I found out from my doctor why I was sooo ill for. Cirrhosis is such a small word for what it makes you go through. I spent 22 years living in London. Now I live in sunny Cairns.
Hi Brett,
Yes your posts are showing up. Sorry to read about your condition. How old are you and how much or how long have you been drinking ?
Hi David. I’m 49 and a half lol. I was drinking most of my life
So you should be real proud you were able to stop just like that after so many years. Some people are unable even they know they have a health issue.
Keep it up and best of luck and health !
Thanks for that. It was strange coming off the booze. I’ve been grappling with upper and lower gi bleeds at the moment. They are very bad things to have. I’ve had 3 major operations in the last 6 weeks. I also have had HE before but the new drugs seem to be working along with the dreaded lactalose to help get rid of the ammonia
Brett11 congrats of no booze. Sorry you are having so many problems. Just hang in there and welcome to the group!
Good day Brett11 and very well done on the 15 months sober. If you don't mind me asking what were your symptoms that led up to your cirrhosis diagnosis. I'm currently 5 months sober and trying to find out were I stand health wise.
Take care

My early symptoms were feeling unwell for some reason. Lots of vomiting, sleeping 22 hours a day and later on had jaundice. That was the easy part. Spent 6 weeks in hospital to get my drugs right
Wow you have been through quit a lot again congrats on turning things around. How have you been feeling now since you've been off the drink for some time.

The mixture of drugs to keep me alive compensate for the lack of booze lol. No one can tell you to stop drinking I fact it could be a major health issue if you go cold turkey. You have to want to stop drinking and take yourself out of situations where you might drink. I just got addicted to the painkillers instead lol. That was hard coming off them but I did it
I get addicted to another addiction to cover the first .
Nearly 3yrs sober if I can do it as an addictive person now I'm just a moaner but well done all that has stopped and yes I'm looking at myself sober! Nothing like pink
Grats on the sobriety mate 👍
I think the thing that helped me stop so easily was the illness, I suspect it helps when you feel so unwell. I wouldn't recommend it as an aid to abstinence though lol. You do sound like you have been through the wringer, it's bloody miserable and I fully empathise as I was going through the same stuff this time last year.
Two years sober now, and a new liver.
Keep up the good work mate, wish you all the best.
I can relate to the no booze it's been hard now 5 months sober I quit for my family. My 2 young kids didn't need to see me drinking all the time. I was very heavy drinker for 15 years so now I'm trying to get my health situation in order I feel ok but have an ultrasound reort that says my liver has a slight course ecotechture. I'm trying to eat right and exercise I just hope I stopped in time to stop any progression. Good job all on the not drinking it's a big deal to get sober after so many years.
Take care
