kPa readings and what they mean depends on what the underlying cause of the fibrosis is. There is an understanding your fibroscan score chart which has bars for the cut offs for the differing causes - you've mentioned having an earlier diagnosis of fatty liver - the good news is that in both NAFLD and alcohol related liver disease a score of 8.9 kPa doesn't indicate cirrhosis. For NAFLD is 'might' indicate F2/F3 so a reversible stage of fibrosis, for alcohol related it is in the F2 bracket so again reversible. [kPa figures can also be falsely elevated if you have any ongoing inflammation so your fibroscan result needs to be looked at in conjunction with recent bloods - in particular any inflammation markers].
Life style change, no booze, healthy diet and exercise should see those numbers come down - certainly nothing to be terrified about but certainly something you want to get to grips with.

I think the chart you posted is based on pretty old data (for NALFD 2010). I would say 9.5 kpa is rather top of F2. But every study has slightly different scale. Here for example.
But fibroscan is only an estimation you cannot rely on it with high precision. I had one 8.9 kpa (but not very reliable IRQ/median 32%). One year later 7.0 kpa (IRQ/median 4%). So according your chart I went from bottom F2(F1/F2) to bottom F3. It is not my case I think.
cheers katie i have just got my results after waiting 7months but the best news is i now know its not a death sentence wich was going to happen within a year or 2 that i was actually told by a know all receptionist at my local medical centre i can now at least live a little as in having a holiday ( or a few abroad) and spend more time enjoying life instead of living with a doom gloom mood or lying awake worrying at night , but i do understand diet and daily life needs a bit of change , but this has so much relieved me ,, so now i can make plans to get out and about and see even a bit of local life as well as travel after being sat in a flat worrying about the end ,,,many thanks kate i am going to make sure i enjoy today !
hi iro1 it really all is a big worry and it seems to make waiting longer than is needed and its been playing all sorts of scenarios on my mind that i am now finding it hard to get my head round some normality for once i now have to get used to going out and explain why i have lived like a recluse for over 2 years, many thanks tho iro1 for your reply
