I'm not sure why you think you need to take anything for your liver? The liver does a fine job without the need for any additional support.

Richard! Thank you for your answer.

I have been reading in Pub Med a lot of research about different foods that help to stop the liver inflammation, cancer etc like : Curcumin, green tea, beetroot, pomegranates etc.

Why not to integrate them in your diet and at the same time that you eat nice food, "may be" you are supporting your health?

Many thanks for your reply. I should point out that at the moment, liver cirrhosis isn't curable. However, with adopting a healthy life style, and having some respect for the liver, then further damage can be prevented.

What I mean about having more respect is to try and be mindful of what the liver does and try to avoid adding any more unnecessary toxins. Over the counter medicines can be dangerous if you are self medicating on pain killers. Alcohol is a no no. Try and understand the cause of the cirrhosis. Some damaged livers can have more iron than in healthy ones, while for some people there can be insufficient iron.

Sadly there are many people out there trying to sell you something you really don't need. You don't need to detox your liver. So don't go wasting your money and detoxing you wallet or purse.

Good luck.

You are ABSOLUTELY right Richard!

This is why I am looking for foods that I like to eat and at the same time has back up from research as anti-inflammatory or that contains anti-oxidants or anticancer properties in order to prevent FURTHER deterioration.

I have investigated Curcumin (Turmeric) with pepper, broccoli, cloves, pomegranates and beetroot among others.

A word of caution, not all 'health supplements' are safe, some definitely do more harm than good. They are not subject to the same scrutiny and testing as medications. We would always advise that you discuss taking supplements of any kind with your own doctor.

Thank you for your reply!

Please see my answer to Richard.

You are both RIGHT!

What about food as support?

Eating healthily is the best way to go, whilst some food stuffs are plauded as 'good for the liver' and such claims - many in too high amounts can actually be harmful. Turmeric taken as a supplement rather than just as a food flavouring and Green Tea (including Green Tea Extract) have both been identified as the trigger for hepatic damage.

As the BLT moderator has indicated it is best to run any supplements or alternative treatments past your own doctor. As this is a BLT run forum they can not advocate any so called alternatives or food stuffs as 'support' as for some folks these could actually be hepato-toxic.

I just came from my Liver Dr.

All my liver enzymes are back to normal after being a little bit higher when I stopped for a month with my super healthy eating as I was travelling.

Every day I drink pomegranate juice and beetroot juice, with a little bit of cloves.

I eat according to the Mediterrenean diet: lots of veggies and fruits in moderation, nuts and salmon and green tea (not extract)

I am eating a little bit of dates and coffee everyday.

I have not found a place where I can buy the dates seeds that I can trust.

So I eat fresh dates...but the sugar content? uuuhhhmmm

So, eating healthy pays!!!!!

I also read about the green extract

COOKING with turmeric AND PEPPER...(not supplements: expensive and ineffective) supports anti-cancer activity...

The only thing? am a couch potatoe...no exercise! No good.

If somebody hears about FOOD in a NATURAL way that is protective for the liver...please tell me...

Thank you so much for your answers!
