Hi All, hope you are all well. I have been reading the daily digest for 6 months, and thought i should introduce myself. I was first diagnosed with fatty liver after US in Jan.I was told by ths Gastro doc to stop drinking (1 1/2 bottles of wine daily) and lose weight. I stopped drinking immediately (very easy) and lost 2 stone. Fibroscan results were not good (median-34.8, IQR-19.6 and none below 25, and was then told I have Cirrhosis. I have since had 2 endoscopies and 1 colonoscopy, results no masses and just 1 minute varice and was put on Omeprazol. LFT's were not so good GGT-1538, ALP-243, Bilirubin- 26, INR-1.1, albumin-39, ALT- 32. My MELD score was 11, and UKELD 51. I wasn't told what stage of cirrhosis I have.
These results put me borderline for LT if they don't improve, but I am worried that as I will be 70 tomorrow, would I be too old to be considered for a LT?
Sorry for the long post.
Kind Regards, Davianne

Hi there, sorry to hear about the diagnosis. There is no age limit for LT. Its based just off your labs and if you are otherwise healthy. If it was drinking related then you need to abstain for 6 months min.
What were your symptoms before going in? How long were you drinking that much? Your bloods and condition may improve over time and put off needing an LT.
Hi Ronin, hope you are well and thanks for your reply. I was drinking at that level for about 12 years, and at first my GP blamed my blackouts on heart arrhythmia. Had loads of tests and a heart reveal device inserted in my chest 3 1/2 years ago, but it never showed any arrhythmia, but bloods taken a year ago, showed the results in my original post. I had ascites, really bad bruising, swollen ankles and light headedness (hence my blackouts), but not caused by drink. I have to have more LFT bloods taken just before my next appointment with my gastro doc in late Oct. I have so many questions to ask him. Liver problems just weren't on my radar with my drinking otherwise I would have stopped years ago. I've been dry since diagnosis , about 8 months now.
Congrats on giving up the drink so quickly, you did really well. Please keep me updated as to how you are. I've got Nash with fibrosis, fibromyalgia, under active thyroid , ibs and diverticulitis!!
My thyroid is stopping me losing weight, consultant said if I don't lose the weight it will be cirrhosis then transplant!! Not what I wanted to hear!!!, Please take care. Lots of love Lynne xxxx
Hi Lynne, many thanks for your reply. Some of my weight loss was due to not drinking and the ascites fluid just went by itself as a result. I am always on a diet now, but have struggled to find out what is good and bad for my liver. I have IBS too, and they found some evidence of diverticulitis in my lower colon, but said it wasn't an issue. Just waiting now for my next round of appointments with gastro so I can get answers to my many questions and concerns- I just want to know what all the figures in my test results mean. My wife says they should give me my own seat at the hospital as I'm a regular customer Ha Ha, but at least I have a holiday in Menorca to look forward to in the mean time.
Hope you feel better soon. It's all the waiting that's hard too. Left a message with liver nurse this morning to see if my fibroscan can be brought forward. Had no sleep again last night. It's hard for my husband as he feels so helpless
Hi Lynne, yes, waiting for appointments and answers is very hard. My wife was a matron at our local hospital, before she retired, so when we go there she see's a lot of her staff, so she enjoys our visits, although not the reasons for them. Endoscopy was one of her wards, so I get special treatment!!! Sleeping was a problem for my as well, and was on amitriptyline, but made me groggy in the mornings, so stopped taking them.
Fibroscan is very quick and you get the results there and then. David
