Can someone clarify the reason its advised we don't take Ibuprofen? I have a horrific headache and pains in my right side and they are the only tablets I have on me... :-(

Hope your all ok and had a nice BH weekend!

I find if you replace Haribo with...

No?

OK I'll shut up. Lol

Must admit I don't know. I was told this also and have avoided them since but when I was told I'm sure it was more because of my colitis than liver???

I have read the leaflet - should have done that in the first place really....Its because I have a long history of bleeds on my stomach and because I am on warfarin and beta blockers! So can't even take a little bit!

Guess I'll drink more water!

Go and have a lie down in a dark corner.

I think it's because ibuprofen causes bleeding. With low platelets from liver disease this would be a problem.

I thought so. Stomach bleeding. It is also hard on the kidneys, I believe. At least nephro gave absolute thumbs down.

I hope your pain will ease soon.

P.

Can cause bleeding in the stomach.

Bleeding risk and also very hard on the liver if taken very often. This was among the first things my hepatologist told me to be aware of.

Hi chelle just my experience but I find ibuprofen very heavy on the liver-I try and avoid it. Don't know the full medical reason-even the creams.

Pain killers clear through the liver and anti inflammatory pills cause bleeds. A bleed put me in hospital last week for a transfusion, tests identified cirrhosis of the liver! So the advice was ditch the painkillers. I am allowed the odd paracetamol or codeine based pain killer. I am also investigating acupuncture!

Hope this helps, I will let you know about the acupuncture!.

Thanks everyone, I knew there was a reason I was told not to take it, let alone the cirrhosis I have and PVT it aggravates the bleeds I am already having! ha ha! However I am being referred to a neurologist just to check what's going on.

Thank you all though!

Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) can adversely impact on the liver. I had a bit of an arthritic issue some years ago, before i had issues with the liver. Was prescribed Diclofenac (which is an NSAID med) which did cause injury to my liver. Stopped taking it and everything went back to normal. However, because the joint issue persisted i continued to take ibuprofen. This too had an adverse affect on my liver, not so bad as the diclofenac, just raising LFTs so also had to stop that. The NSAIDs weren't the cause of my liver issue, but I am aware they can harm it. Not sure why or how but they can. From the very start of consultations about my liver i was told not to take any anti inflammatories, including asprin. I do also appreciate they can also lead to issues with bleeding too, so that just adds another reason.
