High AST/ALT results

I've just been given the following AST/ALT results. I know they are higher than normal but exactly how bad are they?

SGOT / AST - 69

SGPT / ALT

- 52

Incidentally my Alkaline Phosphatase was within normal range

hi Minnie136

my advice would be to discuss this with one of your clinical team - without full knowledge of your holistic health it may lead to misleading information

did a liver consultant or specialist nurse give you these results? if so call and ask for someone to explain the results to you or if you have an appointment coming up ask then

if it was your GP make an appointment or ask for a telephone call for them to explain

please be careful misleading information because people do not have the full facts / medical history can cause undue concern

best wishes

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, the results came from an annual general blood test that I initiate myself. The only abnormal results were the AST/ALT. We don't have GP's where we live so the only option would be to go to a hospital to see a consultant - hence my question

Minnie,

nobody, not even an eminence n hepatology could deduce anything from two isolated values alone.

There are protocols for GP's what to do with LFT's elevated less than twice, I think.

You say you do not have access to a GP where you live. If you are completely asymptomatic and just found out on a routine check about these elevations, I'd have labwork done again within six weeks. If these values should happen to still be elevated, it would be a good idea to see a doctor, at the hospital or wherever, to find out the cause for these elevations.

Not a recommendation. Just what I would do if I had no GP, but the possibility to have labwork done.

P.

Thanks - that makes sense

Liver results can be raised by any infection so the advice to get it redone after 6 weeks is good.
