Holidays : Anyone travel abroad ? Do you... - British Liver Trust
Holidays
Hi, I travelled the world working on ships for 25 years, not many places Interested me to want to go back to. Now days I take doctors advice and stay in the UK. The only time I applied for travel insurance one of the clauses was to be within 50 miles of a transplant hospital otherwise I may not get the treatment I may have needed in an emergency, that must be worth thinking about..
Thankyou for your response. I know I'm being silly moaning about such a trivial thing as going abroad but it is hard to accept the sudden limitations to my lifestyle😔
I understand how you feel, I had a few life style changes but nothing too drastic to stop me doing my usual things. I was made redundant from a shipping company , as I never travelled abroad much after that I started discovering the UK. I am still the same person, happy go lucky and I hope you get to feel the same. If you feel down I am always ready to chat...
It is available at a price but.
be honest with them about what you have. HE. Do you want to spend 5 day's in a foreign hospital.
Hiya
I got travel insurance very easily and it wasnt that costly.
The only questions I had to answer were:-
Do I have cirrhosis - Yes
Have I had banding - No
Have i had a transplant - No
Obviously the premiums and conditions may be different if you have more Yes answers

Hi. I had an official list from LiverNorth of companies that were likely to offer cover. I tried about five with no luck. I'm going on holiday in September, so will just wing it x
Hi Maureen thanks for reply. Have u had HE? And PBC? Have Drs said u cud travel
Sorry, don't know what they are 🙄 I got cured of Hep C , but was left with cirrhosis, which in turn has left me with small liver tumours. I had one shot at TACE a couple of months ago. I'm not fit enough for a transplant so getting another shot at TACE next month. I did not ask my consultant about going on holiday. I just booked it as a treat for myself and my daughter who has looked after me so well. Also my dear husband divorced me this year so it's just a treat to make up for all the crap I've had to go through x
Hi...I'm Julie and like you after 17 years waneed to go away to the sun. I was naughty and booked corfu..got good price medical insurance for cirrhosis and varices and then thought OMG I havent told hepatologist. Left a message with his secreamy. A letter came from him outlining the risks and urgently wants to band my varices and reluctantly allowed me to go. I did it all the wrong waye round which I don't advise but am now able to go. Is your hepatologist saying no or GP.as hepatologist holds the key. Best of luck and see if nagging helps like it did with me....Julie xxx
I'm traveling to cuba next month from Chicago. You can get an insurance here in the states called Travel Guard. It protects for pre existing conditions.
Hi ..I couldn't get insurance as I had to have a clear year since the last banding of varises so we just took holidays in the U.K. ...took the car and took the dog and we had a good time with great weather...I would like to go abroad again ..we loved Italy but it's a small price to pay staying in our country which is lovely too. I have PBC stage 4 cirhossis.
it's a big problem for me as well my freind-- u can't get trav insurance if doc says ur unfit to travel -if u do, it will be void, then all u can do is pay for your own treatment once outside of the uk
just to say-- anyone who travel's abroad against doctors orders --is definately not covered regarding health cover that's "health cover"
