I thought we were advised to only drink bottled water after TX, regardless of still or sparkling? How come you've been told you can't have still bottled?

Cruise sounds great though!! X

I was told no still bottled water only tap because still bottled water has no shelf live and is untreated therefore no use as date so could be years old so can harbour bugs leading to food poisoning symptoms which are dangerous to tx patients. However sparking is ok cos it's been treated so has a shelf life X

Can not have ice cubes either unless made by tap water X

It depends on your recovery and you should speak to consultant before booking anything I was told not to go abroad until after 12 months post.

And ice cubes you have to use the bags what seal up and you cannot have them out in a pub or restaurant x

Hey up jojo

That’s really interesting. Achieving the 3 month milestone post tp we booked a holiday in France for this Christmas (The ine just gone) in France. Two weeks ago we had our first meeting since the tp with one of the tp coordinators. She said that they strongly recommended not to go. Of course we think you should follow recommendations so cancelled holiday (and probably cancelled our money too aaaggghhh). We are adamant that noone told us that “rule”. We knew all about no minor ops for 6 months and no major ops for 12 months (I fall into both categories 😁).

Anyone else any thoughts, please?

Also she said that the coordinator’s role ends after 3 months post tp - new one on me. Again any thoughts?

This is Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital Birmingham.

It looks like you will be 10 months post transplant before you go abroad and I would imagine that is ok as long as you maintain good progress. I went to Tenerife after a similar period and I was following guidance from the hospital. Water is a bit more of a problem: I have never quite understood the sparkling vs still instruction and I have drunk both (sometimes accidentally). I have developed a preference for sparkling water whenever I am in a bar etc). I go to Spain quite often and have always drunk bottled sparking water but also had coffee and tea made with (boiled, obviously) still water. Hope this helps.

Can't have ready made rice or reheated rice so have to cook it from fresh ready cooked chicken anything fron a deli counter buffets are a no no and car army's or food that's kept warm. I'm sure there's other things lol if u Google liver transplant book 2 st James you can download the book you receive after transplant that explains lots of things xx

Thanks for reply it helps a lot. Have to get to like sparkling water lol. I do drink soda and lime when out which I enjoy x is that ok ?

im sure you can get lime shots then top up sparkling... you might want to consider bottle water package as might be cheaper than buying separately.... i had that but hubby had alcohol package.... its done per cabin i think.... so all bottle pacckage or all alcohol.... might need doc note to get reduced price.

def worth ringing company and asking whats incuded indiff packages.

also if you eat in main restaurant not buffet youcan order what you want ... and they will cook fresh... i was nervous about my sons coeliacbut they were excellent and the head chef took our order each night so I soon relaxed. hope you get it sorted and hsve a wonderful time.

p. s. you might be wise to check with consultant as to how soon you can book it as you will have to get insurance when you book. cazer. x

we went on 2 cruises before I got to the point ehere i was too. bad to go due to jaundice and worsening symptoms. it was the perfect holiday for me as you have theatres shops etc all on board if a big boat and you can do as little or much as you like. what drinks are you allowed... they do juice etcbut it tends to have ice? coke etc is also ondraft but bottled is available. i would. be very surprised if the bottles are hanging round as the boat caters for such large amounts of people that they have to re stock frequently.... would . juice be okay you could take some cartons and add to sparkling maybe then re stock in port. most rooms have fridge.

our son is a coeliac ... the boat were excellent for doing gluten free food and were very hot on the contamination problems... so i think if you explained the problem and it was a good company they would do there upmost to help.

good luck. i am now in assessment stage. cazer. x

It's not that they stock up often it's where they get there stock from they may have had it for a while x also I don't want to drink fizzy pop as loads of potassium in them . Good luck with your assessment x

My sister had a transplant in July and she was given a list of do's and dont's,she was told that still bottled water is fine,i think we can take it a bit far sometimes.

We are in Lanzarote at the minute and my son had his transplant in February. We asked my sons consultant before booking and they said no problem. We have never been told that he shouldn’t drink bottled water, he obviously isn’t drinking the local water but then neither are we! He has been fine all holiday, the only complication we have found since his transplant is the cost of travel insurance especially when we want to travel to the USA.
