Meuhrcke line?

I have a single line of white like a Meuhrcke's line on my outer finger nails toward the tip. Is this always cirrhosis? I'm waiting for scans and blood tests at the moment.

It can indicate low albumin levels but not necessarily cirrhosis. Doctors don't use these or Terry's Nails as diagnostic tools anymore. Have you tried chasing up your appointments as you've been waiting a wee while now.

All the best, Katie

Hi Millie .

Thanks for your reply. Have you had it for years? I'm so glad you are getting your appointment. At the moment my anxiety is the worst thing. I need to know and at the same time part of me just wished I hadn't questioned anything and I just found out at the last minute.

Your very welcome .Yes I was diagnosed in June 2008. Was admitted to hospital for 6 weeks Where I was drained three times due to ascites I did not have much of a clue to begin with either ..my sister was the one doing all the research lol .I didn't know how poorly I was at that time .when u was discharged I weighed only 6 stone of that .it depends what has caused your cirrhosis .and how far advanced other is .mine was through alcohol .so I have been told not to touch a drop but I did 4 years ago when my dad passed away .he was a everything to me and I did not want to.live anymore so.i drank every day for over a year but that ended up with me back in hospital with the same symptoms .I still suffered anxiety even now and depression.try not to over worry as you have only just found out .let the consultants do all their Checks on your .scans .endoscopy to rule out any portal hypertension .I'm stage 4 which is end stage liver disease and I'm still here ! Good healthy diet .low salt .cut back on sugars etc I find that has made a big impact on keeping me as well as I have been .I am actually looking forward to meeting the liver team as they will be able to answer all of my questions and to see how much damage has been done in 8 years .your not alone on here , we all.have to live with this disease .some have been so very lucky to have transplants .I'm just thankful I have lived longer than I thought .worse thing you can do is Google !! as half the time it's not correct .good luck ! keep in touch .Linda

I haven't had diagnosis yet and it's driving me insane. As you can tell. I'm hoping I've caught this early and I can maximise the time with my wife and kids. I have stopped drinking too and no matter what I'm never drinking again. You are one brave lady and I'm going to be thinking of you and passing all my positive thoughts for your meeting.

oh I see .well it certainly is a wake up call ! I see you never mentioned that you had any other symptoms ? where if you have advanced cirrhosis you would know about it .I really hope they have caught it just in time as the liver can regenerate if there is no long term scarring .oh I don't think I'm Brave , I just have to get on with it and take each day as it comes but thank you for your kind words .if you need any more help in here if I can help you
