Gall stone pain and nobody wants to know.

Hi, My name is Bob and I am really suffering with my gall stones. The other night the pain was so intense that I dialed 111 and they sent an ambulance which took me to A&E at William Harvey. They gave me some intravenous pain killer and fluids as I was dehydrated but no further treatment. The pain was gone when they kicked me out but was back the next day until 04:00 when I finally managed to get some sleep. I am in severe pain now and ordinary pain killers will not touch it. The doctors do not seem interested in helping me. What do you do in these circumstances anyone?.

Hi sorry to hear your suffering, you are going to have to keep going back to hospital /doctors until someone listens to you and takes you seriously, you shouldn't have to put up with the pain

Hi jojokarak, I have always tried not to a nuisance to anybody but in this case I think you are correct. I will keep posting so people can follow what happens. I am changing my diet to see what results.

Hi Grace, Thanks for asking, its great to know there are people out there that care. Yes I have changed my diet and have a marked improvement in that I only have a dull ache most of the time although a couple of times the pain did increase and I thought "o' no, here we go" but fortunately it went away. Will keep trying for that op. Keep as well as you can Grace XX.

as jojokarak has said keep going back to the hospital. are you waiting to have your gallbladder out? gallstones can be very dangerous i'v had my gallbladder removed and i was never away from that hospital and they told me to keep going back if the pain got unbearable again. i had such pain its terrible and i had a stone in my bile duct. i ended up having a 5 hour operation. did they take blood tests when you went to the hospital? that can tell them quite a bit. but not enough as i had the stone in my bile duct for so long it got calcified. so dont be afraid. they obviously know about all the pain or they would not have given you pain relilef intravenously and the fact that you were dyhydrated. nor would they have sent an ambulance. i will say this once more. go back immediately they will bring your operation forward. its dangerous to get a stone stuck in the bile duct. i remeber so well being dehydrated and not being able to quench my thirst. you should have stonger pain killers to. do you know about eating very low fat food they say no more than 3% fat at each meal this is very hard to achieve. eat very small amounts at a time. try not to eat any ready meals as they are really bad for you and full of fat salt and sugar. try and eat chicken with no skin. boiled rice. porridge fish. boiled eggs. mashed potato no greasy foods or fry ups no cream or yogurs or anything like pizzas or cheese as this can cause so much pain. drink lots of water too. and if you get cramps in the stomach you should have buscopan for that and also omeprazole for acid and indegestion.and good strong pain killers. keep us posted on how you get on please as we are all concerned about each other here. all my best wishes to you love grace xoxoxo

Hi grace111, Thanks for the support. I feel guilty about going back to the hospital but if I have to so be it. Fortunately the pain diminished last night so managed to get a reasonable night but already can feel a slight ache down there. I am going to try and control it with diet but if it does not work then if necessary I will go private to have it removed. I will keep posting to this site so there is a running commentary for other sufferers to follow

Hi ,have you had a scan to confirm the gallstones. Very surprised they haven't arranged for them to be removed, when you're getting so much pain. As has been said keep going back until they do something about it. I was miss diagnosed at first with mine,so it went on for a good 6 months before they were removed with gallbladder, so know how awful you must be feeling. Good luck, hope you're sorted soon.

Hi Bob I had same problem a few years back, up and down to A and E so many times I lost count . I did have my gallbladder removed after about 10 month of pain so really know what you are going through. low fat diet and hot water bottle on gallbladder when having a attack helps the heat seems to stop the stones rubbing against the inside of gallbladder and of course strong painkiller and buscopan and plenty of fluids , just as small tip that helped me through a difficult time hope it helps you too take care.

Hi Lily2, Thanks for contacting me. I have changed my diet and it seems to be helping. I have found a really hot shower followed by the hot water bottle does help but the buscopan does not. By this time I cannot take pain killers other than intravenously, so its A&E again. This seems a waste of their time and resources but you just have to get rid of that pain. Glad you had the op in the end, hope to get that myself some day.
