Hello to all. Does your liver carry on scarring etc even after you have stopped drinking? Also, would you be even considered for tx with severe COPD as well as cirrhosis? Good luck to everyone -nick

Alcoholic Cirrhosis -is it progressive?
Hi Nikolaus, yes, absolutely if you stop the cause of cirrhosis (ie drinking), then the scarring stops. But the existing scar tissue remains.
The NHS says you are "unlikely" to be offered liver transplant if you have COPD nhs.uk/Conditions/Liver-tra....
But "unlikely" does not mean no. Quit smoking and see if you can find a doctor that will advocate for you. You *might* get the ok if you get as healthy as possible and keep trying.
Hopefully some others here will chime in on their experiences with getting approved for transplant. Good luck
Oops the link above doesn't work. Try this one nhs.uk/Conditions/Liver-tra...
Hope all goes well for you - just a thought, have you had your alpha 1 antitrypsin levels checked?
Yes,I had them checked during my COPD diagnosis and it was OK thanks
Hi Nikolaus I also have copd lung function 40% but on seeing the lung consultant he didn't see a problem with me having a liver transplant. However on having cirrhosis and copd causes by alpha 1 I have been told that my heart is dodgy must have been a piece of work in a previous life but I keep praying that the cardiologist might change his mind and say yes. so fingers crossed for you that they will give you a new liver xx
Thankyou Mushroom-71,I hope all goes well for you-Nick
