Alcoholic cirrhosis Hepatic encephalopathy

Partner is currently coming round from being sedated due to Hepatic encephalopathy. The doctors say he is also withdrawing from alcohol. The upsetting thing is one of the first words he said to me when I went to visit was to tell me to f off.. I've since been back to visit and it's mostly abuse I get from him. I'm finding it incredibly distressing and don't want to visit very often any more. Should I feel guilty about this. Nurses have told me he's confused, I feel like crap and worn out

Hang in there sweetheart, I feel your pain. But it was me being a horrible person....I was hospitalised with HE last summer and I was vile to everyone. In my experience when the toxins in my brain started to reduce I slowly started to live in the real world again. He is not himself but with time and medication it does get better. Sending love ❤️

Hiya. I was in hospital with HE in 2021. Trust me, he is very confused and probably doesn't even know who you are until the toxins in his brain return completely back to normal. I was VERY verbally abusive to the nurses apparently using appalling language which is not me at all. My son was speaking to me and I didn't even know who he was. Don't take too much notice of it as its a build up of toxins (ammonia I think?) in the brain. I was completely delusional. I even thought one of the nurses had shot and killed my son. They had to transfer that nurse to another department. I wish you all the very best. Golly x

Hi I had HE when I was in king college hospital and my lovely wife spent 1 1/2 hours on the train to see me and I told her to go home and stop fussing about and go home ( not so politely) so she did🤣😂, boy was I sorry after. The next day she came again and I told her I had killed an old woman with a gun 🤷🏻‍♂️, my daughter and grandson came with my wife and I had no idea who they were, I was also bad mouthing the nurses which I would never do, but medication and time I got better apologies all round and a good laugh . Try to understand he is not himself but I do understand that it must be so difficult for you but please talk to the nurses and doctors to get advice it will be worth it in the end but you will have to have patience, sorry I say that tor him as he can’t 💕💕from the wife and me .

Good luck

Stay safe All
