Hi, I`ve received a GGT result of 86 and the range is 0-60, should I be concerned?

I don't drink alcohol and haven`t for years....also my potassium level was slightly raised too.

Thanks

Thanks Grace111...I`m new to understanding the GGT test, could you explain about it being anything up to 60? My result was 86...did you mean anything up to 60 over that 86 was ok? Many many thanks x

mine was 400 a few weeks ago i have chronic liver disease and gall stones stuck in the bile duct and had an infection i now have a stent in and my ggt is down to just over 200, so i dont think that 60 is anything to worry about.

so sorry to hear that and hope you`re well very soon. mine is 86 and the range is 60 so that's why I`m feeling concerned....I have no idea why this has happened?

What were your symptoms? My Alt is 232 and alt is 177 but my only symptom is fatigue which can be caused by so many things.

I am sorry I mean to say my alt is 232 and ggt is 177.

GGT is very sensitive and it can be related to heart disease aswell as Liver disease. A GP wouldn't be too concerned over one isolated high reading, it bounces around a lot in some people when they are healthy.

Do yo have symptoms of anything?

hi, my ggt came back at 55 when the range is <50. This was after not drinking for 4 months. When I asked my doctor if i can ever drink again she burst out laughing and said yes as long as it in moderation.

if my ggt is 55 does that mean i have "liver damage"? Will having (say) 2 drinks per week see this value creep up forever? I am 53 and have previously had 10 bottles of beer per week for about 35 years. When I had an ultrasound they also said I had a fatty liver.

joyliz, i am not a doctor but if you are worried then go to see your friendly gp. hope all is well.

No GGT of 55 does not mean liver damage...for some people that's normal. Being constantly in the high hundreds could mean inflammation but I wouldn't worry at those levels.

I would be over the moon if my ggt went back to 55.
