My hubby's creatinine levels have been between 110 and 130 up to last week... They are 170 this week and his tac level is non detectable even though he's been taking 3 and 2mg a day. They have him back in tomorrow - but can't think of anything that would have caused it... His urine is fine and all else feels well - liver functions are all fine...
Has anyone else had this post transplant?

Hi Pear. Yes this happened to me & my transplant was 14 months ago. First of all I had to go on dialysis whilst in ICU. Then at my first check up post discharge I was told my creatinine levels were high but they put it down to my loss of appetite & not drinking enough fluids. So I made sure that I drank plenty of water even though my appetite was low but the levels didn't decrease. (sorry but I no longer note the actual readings) After a few weeks I was eating & drinking properly & starting to feel well but the creatinine levels refused to come down. Tacrolimus dosage was gradually reduced & everything was going well-except the creatinine!! In February they replaced Tacrolimus & Azathioprine for Sirolimus & Mycophenolate Motefil as Tacrolimus can cause kidney problems. My last check up was in June but the creatinine levels were still causing concern even though I am feeling really well-better than I have felt in years. I am leading a normal life, working, going on training courses, having holidays, doing DIY, gardening & even a bit of cycling. As my liver is doing so well my next check up with the Transplant team isn't until the end of September. I will let you know then whether my creatinine is still high-if it is they will most likely refer me to a Kidney specialist. I really think this is a common problem Pear. Don't worry, just make sure hubby drinks plenty of fluids & eats properly. The transplant team will reduce or change the drugs if needed. Take care of yourself too.
It's come down today to around 160... He was on magnesium - very high dose so stopped this as it said online it can cause renal trouble. The doc wants him monitoring blood sugars and review again next week...
Thank you for sharing Bill, it's has helped so much...
Do let us know what they say at the next appointment and to be honest you should be able to get it checked by your GP also...
