I am trying to get information from my doctor about my scan. Does anyone on here know about how the result score works?
Fibroscan results: I am trying to get... - British Liver Trust
Fibroscan results
They like to get about 10 results form different areas in the liver. That gives the whole picture, fairly accurately, The higher the number - the more fibrosis there is. I asked for my result as the consultant had said they would be able to give it to me, but he said it would need interpreting along with other test results. My result was 27 which was quite high - and a previous biopsy had shown some fibrosis. (I have NASH Cirrhosis). In the end I googled the result, and contacted the consultant's secretary to get me an earlier appointment in the out patients to discuss it. I would advise you to take someone with you when you see the consultant - two pairs of ears are better than one. I also found that GP's are not very knowledgeable about fibroscan results!
anything below 7 is normally considered ok. my result was 7.6 which indicated fatty liver but no fibrosis-later confirmed by ultrasound .12/13 starting to get into fibrosis/cirrhosis territory. Having said that fibrosis in some case can be reversed as can be fatty live depending on cause
Good Afternoon,
FibroScan is useful tool to help determine the stage of a liver condition; it will give a good indication of how much injury to the liver there might be. It detects liver stiffness; the liver should be flexible, the stiffer it is the more injury is present. However, it does NOT provide information on why the liver is injured.
Your Fibroscan score will be used alongside your complete medical history; other tests including your liver function blood tests (LFTs) and usually an ultrasound scan; also, other factors, such as what your liver condition is, how long you have had it for, the quality of the Fibroscan measurements taken and other potential influencing factors, to make a diagnosis.
Usually at least 10 measurements are taken and the average score of these are used. Sometimes more may be taken if the accuracy of the measurements isn’t great, this could be due to movement, getting your ribs or breathing. The person trained and performing your Fibroscan will be able to judge this.
Kind regards
Sandy
