Does anyone know if early portal hypertension can make you breathless...i keep having to take gasps of air every now and then...

I know exactly what you mean. I too often find I need to take a few deep breaths as though I can't

get enough oxygen. I would be interested to know why that is.

I do have mildly low blood counts and I mentioned it to the haematologist once. He said "thats nothing"

so I don't know the answer.

Thanks CMGY..glad to hear some others have this problem ....was thinking maybe it was just one of those odd things that happen for no reason,although it's just been the last few mths i have been having symtoms.

I have portal hypertension and have noticed progressive breathlessness as it the symptom gets worse. I can only assume that there is only so much room in the abdominal cavity, something has to give and this is the movement of the diaphragm so the lungs can't be filled as much. Only a guess but maybe this is the reason. Regards Phil

Thanks Phil..glad to hear there is a reason for all this..hope everything went well with the transplant team...you will be OK Phil my husband has had 3 and the first for the same reason as you..good luck and hope all goes well X
