Been off ill for 4 weeks with liver damage and still no results.

So far, I've been told to stay off work and have been for a month now, which isn't fun cause I can just about manage bills when I do work. I'm also worried cause they still haven't found anything and the 4 weeks is ending.

I've taken about a million blood tests now, my arms are just purple from bruises. Already at a jaundice clinic for tests. Ruled out hep a, b, c and e . Said it wouldn't be d. Also not HIV and they've ruled out anything serious. But 4 weeks later and they're not seeing improvement. I could do with this being rid of now so I can afford Christmas D:

Anyone else got this far and still no diagnosis? What could it be? Im 21 and doctors have said it won't be gall stones because of my age.

Also is it wise to work? I only work in a call centre and I don't feel ill enough to be off but doctors keep insisting. I could just do with my partner being at home more instead of working 7 days a week for money and I'm not sat alone at home all day every day with no human contact.

it is a very worrying time especially when you do not have a diagnosis

are you seeing a hepatologist? or is there a specialist nurse you could discuss things with at the "jaundice clinic"

rest is undoubtedly very good when you do have your symtoms but you should speak with your clinicians again and see if it would be more beenficial for you to go to work and have your colleagues' camaraderie and support

Try and see a hepatologist as they specialised in liver issues. Have you been tested for autoimmune diseases, e.g. autoimmune hepatitis?

You say you are ill with liver damage. Has this been definately diagnosed. If not then ask your doctor to be referred to a specialist liver clinic where your worry will definately be confirmed or not. You may be heading in the wrong direction.

It's definitely liver damage, all my blood results are indicating that way, but they don't know what's caused it. They haven't said anything about autoimmune hepatitis, but I think they said it's only acute hep and not chronic!

Hi Luaramw, you said they have told you it won't be gall stones because if your age this is alias of rubbish. I was also told the same thing when I was 20 (2years ago) and was misdiagnosed with heart burn even when I argued it wasnt heart burn, went to see another gp after I was in crippling pain who sent me straight to hospital I had MRI, ultra sound etc and then had to have surgery to removed my gall bladder because it was in such a mess and packed with gall stones. So please insist they check your gall bladder despite your age to rule it out being a cause/ contributor to your problems.

I agree both myself and my sister were told that when in our early twenties and was gallstones with both of us plus with my mum at similar age. They should be able to tell just from a ultrasound so shouldn't be a major issue testing for it. Also they do tend to take their time about things keep on to them. They had me fly back from holiday for a biopsy then took six weeks to get results despite me phoning constantly. Couldn't wait till I returned was too urgent I was told.
