The less I run the less I want to run. When I run regularly there's no thought or decisions involved it's just 'Today's the day'. I knew today was the day but if I hadn't had encouragement from Mr Y I think I may well have just had another coffee.
It was a lot warmer than my last run, a toasty 7C! The last run was so cold that I put on hat and gloves again. After a few minutes I didn't need them so took them off.
We ran across the fields which made things a lot slower than the last couple of runs. Slippery mud means I am not going to go flat out and risk being flat on my face. The effort was similar so it goes to prove that, for me at least, terrain is the thing that affects my speed the most.
The sun shone, there was no wind, the scenery was lovely, even the tide was in. So glad I didn't let the gremlins stop me from having fun.
The opposite of my opening sentence holds true too: the more I run the more I want to run

Absolutely, consistency builds both strength and an assumption that 'I will run' not 'oh maybe I'll run and maybe I won't'.
The silly part about this reluctance is that as soon as I'm out of the door it doesn't really matter what the weather's like (unless it's pouring with rain from the start - a little drizzle or some rain halfway through is OK) I'm raring to go !
Getting out of the door is key! I usually don’t have a problem. Running for me is something of a refuge. I just leave problems at home, in fact I sometimes find solutions as I run. On wet dreary days, I just treat starting a run like diving into a pool of water. I know that first contact is going to be cold and wet, but I also know that in no time at all I will be into the run and feeling good. I just need that bit of will power to make the first few steps. Hope you continue to enjoy your runs 🙂
I have been struggling with a calf injury; totally out of the blue at the end of a long run. I think it is under control now, but I need to run some distances again! I can’t let the weather dictate to me!!🙂
Ah, Beachcomber66 , I can no more dive into a pool of water than....go out for a run when it's pouring with rain! 😂 Much to my husband's annoyance I stand at the water's edge and enter by millimetres. The only time I've ever done the big jump was when I was scuba diving lol
🤞I think it is resolved thanks MissU. It was two things together; a pulled calf which the physio treated and some residual peroneal/ankle pain and weakness which I fixed with the help of my trusty massage ball and calf raises. I ran 6.68 kms yesterday at a reasonable pace and there was no reaction. I have a follow up appointment on Wednesday so that should sort out any lingering problem. 👍
That's exactly how it was for me this morning: awful sleep, pouring rain, out of the door and now I am body-tired, rather than weary. The rain and movement was an escape and I lost myself in my music and the momentum.
You are so right…tbe more you run, the more you want to run! I’ve been really busy and running less…that’s making me want to run more too!! That’s quite unusual though. When I just can’t be bothered and that percolates for too long, the runs fall off a cliff.
Really gorgeous photo. Great run too! You’re on a roll!!
Definitely agree with you! We humans are creatures of routine aren’t we - but unfortunately it works both ways . At the moment I am in a ‘no run’ routine - mostly due to illness (little children love spreading their germs 🤧🤒🙄). I tried a little run on Tuesday but it was VERY hard work- too tired, coughing etc 😮💨.
I have the utmost admiration for anyone who manages to balance anything regularly if they have responsibilities for small children. Your routine will come back once you're back at full strength
You are so right, I used to find if I missed a few days it was really hard to get going again, but wh n I ran most days I couldn't wait to get out again
