I had an annual leave day today, but woke up feeling grotty. But by late morning I felt I wanted to still go out for my planned run.
I had made a sort of weekly plan, as I felt I’ve spend too long around the 3k distance, with all sorts of injury couch stints (calf muscles, Covid) keeping my distances down.
I do longingly remember at which level my running was 18 month ago, at which time I regularly ran 10k.
So I want to get back to at least running solidly 5k distances, and do that 3 times per week so I can extend my long run beyond 5k.
So official I started my plan this morning, and I will very slowly be increasing the weekly distances.
The run this morning felt not great but not bad either, but I was so glad I got out there. It was an out and back, out on an upwards gradient, back on a downward one. That helped.
And I finished the day with a recovery row on my indoor rower, running my avatar through some beautiful scenery on Zwift.
So happy running, everyone and wishing every impatient runner lots of patience. We definitely need it sometimes, as we recover from various setbacks.

I also longingly remember longer runs (pun intended) !! It is nearly a month since my last run 😬🙁 Not injury but just lots going on - extra hours and stress at work but also a lovely half term holiday which involved walks but not runs.
Your plan looks good, well done for getting out there despite feeling rough, I admire that determination. I need to get a plan……🤔
Like you I've settled into a routine of 3k runs, mostly because it was so hot over the summer so that was enough.I'm now determined to do a longer (at least 5k) run and an interval run each week. You've made me realise I should probably get to the stage where my default distance is 5k and the longer run more than that.
In October 21 I ran 56km, last month only 26 km. There were good reasons for this but I'm missing that feeling of just running and running.
Yes, although the smaller distances feel great as well. But yes, I think similarly that ideally I’d like to get to the point where 5k is the smaller distance of the week’s three runs.
Hopefully we’ll get that feeling of just running for longer back soon.
Good to see one of your plans CBDB and hope it goes to plan for you and your injuries are kept at bay. So frustrating when the niggles and worse keep appearing. I am now at 5k for the long run and will be using the Magic Plan to increase distance (if not too muddy on my routes!!). Can't wait to be back at 10k but will take it slowly, like you. So enjoy your plan and 🤞🤞🏃♀️🚴♀️.
Good for u getting out injuries or grogginess. You’re a battler. It’s good to have a plan or a challenge. Might do the same 1000 mile challenge next year again. I’m out walking anyway so may as well do it.
I do need to find a plan for my walking as well, so will have to have a think of what I’ll do for my walking in 2024 ! I might join you again but up my challenge by not counting rowing. Will have to have a think of that is realistic.
