So much was not right with my early 5km run. Even at 7 am it was 21C and muggy. My Garmin took 10 minutes to find a satellite as I hung around in the road.
When I finally started my legs were like concrete and I felt I weighed a ton. After 200m I just stopped. “I’m not enjoying this one bit,” I thought. “Best just walk back and make a cup of tea.”
Then another voice said that I’d be disappointed with myself if I didn’t do it, and there’d be too much traffic on this route till next Sunday.
Then the Compromise Fairy chipped in. “Why not make it a jog? It doesn’t have to be a hard run. A jog is just as good and you can enjoy the scenery more.”
So that was the solution. Total time 5 minutes more than usual, average cadence 5 spm less than usual, and almost entirely in Zone 2. Average heart rate 102. Better than throwing in the towel.
