Something a bit different. In this week’s quest post, I said to watch out for a photo challenge…and here it is!
Have you been up a hill? Time frame totally flexible. Walking or running both count. Big slopes and small inclines welcome too. If you’ve got a view that made you smile, why not share it below…
My ”hill of the week” was an evening run/walk as the sun was setting. It was planned as a shorter route but it was so nice out that I added an extension along a bridleway with a beautiful view over the countryside. I was glad of the trail shoes-the downhill section is quite steep down a bridleway path that always holds water. A workout for the legs but ended with a big smile.
So what’s made you smile? Let’s celebrate those hills!
Loving this...but having slogged up the first bit of my favourite? hill yesterday, I am not sure that the reply would be positive
Setting that aside, I love hills.. large or less large... The lovely long slopes appeal to me greatly, but the steeper tracks up some of the larger hills or mountains are wonderful! Years spent in North Wales climbing and walking set you up wonderfully for some of the running adventures.
What I thought were hills, when I started C25K, were almost bumps in the road... I used the hill in my photograph for many purposes... and as time evolved, I discovered that my pace on hills was faster than on the flat. My husband says it is because I work harder at it and that in turn has meant it feels easier.. Yes, I have always been odd!
It is a hill of many faces, beautiful in its own distinctive way...it is bordered by green space, and huge trees... the golf course on one side stretching away to distant fields, the other, the green spaces between the road and the sprawling aerodrome estate. There are hidden ponds and small lakes a few strides away from the pavement. The squirrels are ever present as are the ducks and the Canada geese.
It begins in the village, just beyond the station and finishes after a long slow climb on the levels at the top. The photo shows the view about 3/4 of the way up looking back down... it drops away at the bottom to the first short steepish bit from the village and above where I am standing there is a real sting in the tail, a short sharp steep section.
I love it... it is the start to many of my runs, the subject of many a ramble, and used as a warm up... although yesterday after building back from Covid... I did wonder at the wisdom of going all the way up. I did it and I did enjoy it, especially this time, when I reached the top! Because, what goes up, must come down and I did... negative splits or what!!!
Hills? You either love them or loathe them... but wither way, we just get over them
Lovely hill and really interesting post too! I’ve got a hill I’m often faster going up than on the flat. Maybe it comes at just the right time to be warmed up. Maybe it’s because it’s just a really nice one and I’m always in a good mood going up it! It’s just the right balance of steep and gentle so you can challenge yourself with a bit of respite too. We can be odd together if that’s not too much of a contradiction!
Hills are just the best for negative splits!! I hadn’t thought of that as an extra bonus of them!
Yes, let us be odd together.. sounds good to me... and yes, I am always glad going up hills... yesterday I think was a tad more of a struggle with being out of sorts for a while
It’s my favourite one! It’s not too far from home and there are some lovely horses in the fields. Sometimes deer too. The only problem is when it’s very wet, the path turns to swamp! Here’s what it looked like on my debut for the trail trainers…
This is my love / hate hill it's on my most run 10k route. I run up from the roundabout which is out of view. It's impossible to take a proper photo due to the curve of the road. As this is a bit of a boring photo I'll add a pretty view next ....
Just as I start up from the roundabout there's it's a hotel that always has a security guard at the entrance to the carpark. So I obviously can't have a rest until I'm out of his view 🤣😂
I agree I love the photos I particularly like seeing photos of sea side running routes .
Not this week, but back in mid-November, I struggled against this one in Alnwick, Northumberland. A couple of days later the "Keep in low gear" sign had fallen off.
Love a good photo challenge! And hills. I fear I couldn’t choose between all my lovely hills, so they are all here. None of them too much, but just enough!
Strangely enough, I couldn’t find a pic of my most run hill, the one I use for all my hill runs. So I’ll have to take a picture on my next hill run!
Great selection of hills there! I like the description of “not too much, just enough”… I can think of many hill around here that are in that category. You’ve got my thinking of what the other categories might be now!
Well living in Wales..... I might run a few hills...... love this challenge! This was from my first try at a trail run on the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Going for extreme hills now!
I did a bit of general silliness on hills the other day: 11.56 km, 307 m elevation gain. It included running up and down the field in the photo for absolutely no good reason other than I felt like it. Top photo is view from top of field, bottom one is side view from the road.
