So how is everyone getting on? the weather has warmed again here in the south which for me makes it even better being outside.
My week was great, we went to see Abba last Monday, then I ran in London on Tuesday and was within hailing distance of a very good VRB Birdlady64 which was lovely to know. Back to work Wednesday, Late shift and sleep in Thursday/Friday and then the littlest grands arrived for a sleepover Friday evening which was a lot of fun but a bit tiring. Sunday came around and I ran and swam and sat in the sun and thought about what a lovely life we are leading and how lucky we are to live so near the sea.
My Quest for week 2 is to do a few short runs and some more swimming. So..........
What is the Quest ?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
Some popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............
Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.
So, come along, cheer each other on and let us know what you are planning for the coming week and how the last week went.
Thank you all for the weeks months and years of encouragement, a big cheer for anyone who runs and a hug and healing thoughts for anyone on the IC.....we've all been there and know how frustrating it can be not to be able to get out and run.

Hello SueAppleRun I'm so glad you had a lovely week - sounds like bliss 🤗 My week has gone well.1) YES - Continue to run 3 times a week - managed to do exactly that
2) YES - continue with garmin coach HM training plan for event in November
3) YES - do at least 2 cross training sessions a week - one should be strength. - played 2 netball matches and did some weights
4) YES on track- do at least 2 parkruns one should be completely new - did 1 parkrun so far
5) YES - have at least one rest day - had two!
When I set my quests at the beginning of the month I didn't factor in that next week will be a running rest week and I will therefore only be doing 2 runs so I'm slightly amending that quest.
Hope you manage to do those short runs and swimming this week but it's going to be very hot so you may need to check the timings of your runs!
You did it! made your quest and stuck to it 😀 I quested to continue the half marathon plan but went off plan yesterday and enjoyed it. Enjoy your running rest week
As of this morning, I'm 15Km through the 65KM I want to run this month, so feeling on track
💪
I've really enjoyed the consistent running I did last week, and I always find it amazing how quickly the body can adapt to new habits and processes! My morning run this time last week was very much a watching the clock run, but this morning I was wishing I had more time before work to do a little extra!
Although I've decided I'm "over" summer now, I live in Europe where it's still too warm in the morning for my running preference, I'll make the most of August but am secretely looking forward to those cooler runs from October onwards.
Aren’t you doing well? and it’s still rather hot for running in England too, it’s been a glorious summer. Yes cooler runs are coming and we will breathe a sigh of relief when we aren’t really hot before we even start
I've been traveling again which is great but has been stressful - looking like I'll need a new battery as the car has refused to start twice at very awkward moments. Anyway, on to the Quest!
Signing up for the local 10k: well, I had a look at the web page AND I told a former work colleague who I bumped into before I left about it. I hear that preparation is key to any quest Forest run - haven't yet got close enough to the forest to go running there
Running 3 times a week, sort of, I did Parkrun last Saturday, ran on Monday and ran Saturday. Next week should be easier to organise as I'll be in one place.
Hey, you’re doing great, poor car, hope it doesn’t refuse to start again, it’s very frustrating when that happens. Have a good week and enjoy being in one place.
That’s great to hear and yes it’s really warm already. I’m usually a bit rubbish at quests because I start well then fizzle out by about week 3 so I’m being not too ambitious.
the Abba outfits were fun although a bit scratchy and it was bliss to take the boots off again 😂
Those 2k runs are good aren’t they? I’m planning one this morning but it’s only in the planning stage so far. 😀
As I said last week I'm on a Garmin 10km training plan. I've stuck with it so far even though most of the runs have been exactly the same. This week is starting the variations though.
It was all going well until I got a stomach bug. Four excellent runs (definitely my best week personally so far). Hiit twice. Started the yoga challenge. Then I started vomiting and didn’t stop. Utterly miserable. At least the end is in sight now but I think I’ll be taking a lot of extra recovery days and picking up slowly. My quest this week is…wait patiently to be ready to exercise again. That’s going to be harder for me than running five times a week!
What a busy time you've had. I always love reading about you running or just sitting by the sea. Week my quest was just too recapture the enjoyment of running and "want" to go rather than making myself go. I decided to go back to my routing of trying to do some form of exercise daily even if it's just 10 minutes Pilates or my physio exercises (which I have to confess have dropped by the wayside a bit)
Anyway last week I managed 3 lots of Pilates and 2 of my physio plus 2 runs both 5ks, the last one in Bristol while I was away so that was interesting. Both runs felt better than the previous few weeks ago fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞
Ah you sound as though you have life sorted there 😊. My quest is incredibly simple at the moment. Run early, run in the shade!!! Yup, that’s about it really. All the best 😁.
Ah thanks for the mention SueAppleRun If I'd known we could have had a HU meet up!
And thanks for hosting the Quest. I missed week one but if I'm replying here I suppose I'd better come up with a Quest!
My back has been niggly and I'm determined not to end up where I was last year so I'm trying some Pilates and restarting some of the exercises the physio gave me.
My shoulder still isn't right after my tumble in the woods around Easter time and it's preventing me from doing stuff so I want to get that sorted.
And I want to continue with the NRC HM plan, although a "week" takes me more like 10 days with life getting in the way. And on the basis of Sundays 10k I'm not totally convinced about the longer runs. Let's see...
Ah, good to see you here 😀 I’m with you on the HM plan, yesterday I didn’t want to do a speed run or a long run so i just did 5k and enjoyed most of it, I will get back to it but maybe the next 10k will wait until it cools down a bit. Hope your niggles go and that fall did you some damage didn’t it?
Hi there! 👋🏼 Ummm…not so good on the questing front…
#1: posting…the runs are on Strava, but the posts are still in my head…I feel I should run with a dictaphone, I have *so* many thoughts when running…then I get home…then stuff happens…and all my thoughts on running disappear 🤦🏻♀️
#2: B210k…now on W7, having run the first 9k last Saturday ✅
#3: ummm…yes…YWA, did day 1&2…er nothing since. It’s so hot, and I feel tired on a run day…I may put this on the back burner.
Still out there, still running and embracing my inner snail…
A bit late again but here o am, and Hia! Watched your London post with awe! It was even fun to read about it! 👍🏽
My quests were simple:
- keep running 2-3x/week and progressing on my NRC 5k plan, even during the 6 week stay of my best friend’s son and his girlfriend . It was so great to have them staying with us, and they enriched our household. Keeping in running was no problem.
I did have a phone-faffing-wobble though, and will have to send my beloved phone (and running companion) off to be fixed. So I’ve been training up my Android to manage my weekly runs!
- keep rowing 3-4x/ week and progressing on my 30x30 min plan with a biweekly 10k thrown in. I managed that as well, and I’m now on a August Concept2 challenge (week 1 row 10k ✅, week 2: 20k✅, until week 4:40k!!!😱).
Rowing was a tiny bit interrupted due to our visitors, as we moved the rower from the guest room to the living room, and so I was unable to row when my husband had online meetings at his desk in the living room.
But it’s not been too bad, and now that our guests are gone, we’re thinking of keeping the rower in the living room with husband disappearing to the guest room for meetings. We’ll see how it goes. (He should have a quest about his meetings, actually 😂😂)
- AND the new one for this month was to reconnect with a daily Yoga practice with YWA. I’ve missed only yesterday, but otherwise it’s been great having a little yoga practice every day again. So I think I did ok with this. ☑️
I think it’s going ok and I’m surprised I’m seeming to manage to fit in running, rowing, post-run-row-stretching AND yoga into my weekly schedule, on top of working full time. And my body feels great thanks to this!
That is a lot around full time work, you are doing so well it’s lovely to see you running and rowing, yoga is a perfect mix.Always better late than never, I can’t believe how fast the weeks fly by.
London was an amazing experience, from start to finish.
Whoops I should have left for work 3 minutes ago lol 😂
