Hurrying before the heat

For me it adds a frisson of excitement to be trying to get a run in before the Sun has properly got his hat on.

The omens were not good. The weather applet in my PC toolbar just said Heatwave! and my browser showed me an advert telling me I was eligible for a free bus pass (still a year to go before I can get one, thank you very much).

In deference to the warmth - it was 25 degrees @ 6:20 am - I walked both times I needed to cross the main road, and did a 33 minute run instead of yesterday's 36. Usually my route is busy with runners but there was hardly anyone out today. Did see an Indian gentleman running shirtless; not sure that's a good idea - I have read that the sun can heat up your skin and it's best to cover up.

I was running with a heart rate target of 135 bpm, which seemed to me a good way to counter a higher temperature; if I'm getting too hot my heart rate will go up, the watch will shout at me, and I'll know to slow down.

In the event all quite comfy, slightly slower pace than yesterday - 5.4 km @ 6:08 min/km, and average HR of 134, so HR within the target. And it's a lovely bright sunny morning!

Good morning, well done on getting out so early, you can get your bus pass next year then,

Thank you. Yes I'll probably get one, and never use it. I think the only time I use the bus is in London. I usually walk everywhere (with a bit of recreational running of course!)

I didn’t bother getting one, maybe one day

Very impressed! I slept badly and missed the window so it’s this evening or a rest day for me. Too hot now! Sounds like a great run.

Thank you. 🙏 I also overslept a little, but just about made it out in time, I think!

Very impressive! 👏👏👏👏 Well done, I'm in awe of anyone managing a run at all in these temperatures, let alone a whole 5k! In 33 minutes! 🙌🙌

Thanks Beatles. 🙏 Just happy to be running again, and out there enjoying the weather early doors - before there's too much of it! 😁

Had set my alarm for 7 but didn't get up 'til half past. Managed just about 6 miles before it got mega hot! Rest day today at least and much cooler.

Very well done on 6 miles @ 7:30! 💪🏃‍♂️I would have not have taken on the heat an hour later than my 6:20 start!

It is much cooler today; I was out a 6:20 again, 18C, for 33 minutes. Much less sweaty than yesterday. 😁
