My Running Club’s Just Folded!

It was organised via Facebook and the (optional) annual membership fee was £2 so I haven’t lost out financially but it’s still a shock!

The organisers posted that they’ve discussed it and decided that they had to close. They wrote that they’re not going to discuss this and that the group will be shut down after 24 hours. It’s currently paused (which, it seems, means that members can still see the group but nothing new can be added).

There’s obviously a demand for a local club so I’ve set up an alternative group. We currently don’t have any qualified coaches so it’s really just a group for organising runs with friends. It looks like I could end up operating a running club!

Sorry about your running club closing down SkiMonday, however, that's a chance for you to start one of your own, make sure you do everything legally, if you do have coaches or personal trainers they can charge up to £30 a hour, anyway see what happens.

Thanks Al. Plan for now is to just arrange runs with groups of friends.

I'm steering clear of training sessions etc until I know more about it (or until a suitablt qualified person comes along).

That’s a pity but well done you for taking on the challenge. Wishing you all the best with your running club. It’s lovely to have an informal club so as to meet and run with friends.

Well done for taking the lead 👍 who knows, maybe an opportunity to think about getting a coaching qualification too?

Thanks.

Yes, a coaching qualification is something worth considering.

Well done! It might be an idea to speak to the previous organisers and find out if you need public liability insurance etc in case someone blames you when they trip and break their ankle. (Sorry to be a downer but better safe than sorry)

Thanks OBN and good point! I need to tread carefully.

It’s getting a bit political! I’m currently trying to understand what caused the original club to fold so that I can avoid falling into the same problems. It seems that no one wants to put anything in writing so I need to speak to people directly. It seems that there is one person who was causing problems on some of the club runs but, right now, I don’t know who it is or what they were doing.

Good luck with it SkiMonday . I ran a local committee for a couple of years. It organises a big annual charitable event and dealing with people bitching about each other was the worst bit. Hell is other people 😂
