How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.

Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

It is a beautiful spring morning here, crystal clear and calm. I am Volunteering at my local parkrun this morning. Today will be volunteer day number 22 for me and I am Timekeeping. Good luck everyone and enjoy.

I parkrun on a Saturday and volunteer for junior parkrun on a Sunday, so the best of both worlds.

Hi damienair & (not) park runners & park runners,

No Park run for us today. Hubby is still doing short recovery runs after Covid & my return to running after isolating for a week (without testing positive) has been strange. My heart rate has been SO high on every run at a very easy pace for me 🤔

Today, I ran 10k in zone 2 so happy to be back. (Not) Park run time of 39:02

Happy park running everyone ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Today’s run

Clouds? 🤔

Easy paced runs are a tricky thing RW. My heart rate always shoots up when I do them unless I have someone to chat to. Maybe you need a distraction?!

RunWillie profile image
RunWillieGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

I’m used to running by heart rate TailChaser & don’t normally have an issue. I did wonder whether I had the virus & it just didn’t show on my tests & clouds yesterday. What a week!!!! 🤣

Maybe RW, it would make sense with a house full of it. If I ran by heart rate I’d be crawling on my hands and knees 🤣

Good morning Damien, congratulations on your 22nd volunteering role at parkrun, timekeeping is a very important role for volunteers. No parkrun for me today, however, I did run a short 3K around a pond only 10 minutes from where I live, no swans on the pond this morning but I saw several "fishermen " on my short run, on Wednesday I ran my first 8K of this year, I also used the split 5K time as my 92nd (not) parkrun.

A very happy belated St Patrick's Day to you Damien, on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March I listened to the top 200 best Irish tunes of all time on RTÉ Gold, U2 dominated the chart with the number 1 record being ONE by U2.

One is an amazing song. U2 are world class. I did my first ever 10K run whilst listening to the best of U2 on Spotify.

I have just looked on how long it would take to listen to the Best of U2 on Spotify, 4 hours 23 minutes, some people could run a marathon while listening to all those U2 tracks on Spotify.

Good morning Damien.

Parkrun number 25 for me today. Lovely fresh, bright morning. A little cool for shorts, though.

Our numbers were bulked up this week by a dozen or so young girls from a local school, doing a 5km run for charity. They all joined hands to cross the finish line, which gave the timekeepers a huge headache.

The tail walker's chocolate labrador saw someone as they were passing the finish on their penultimate lap, anchored up and lay down, refusing to move until that person came and walked along with them.

We even had a young lad visiting from the USA.

For myself, my aim today was to run at a pace that wouldn't tire me out by the fourth lap. As it was, I was flagging a bit by the end.

Afterwards, I hung around chatting until I started to get chilled and the volunteers were starting to put away the funnel cones.

First finisher (with a barcode) was 20'45". Tail walkers finished at 51 minutes. The schoolgirls mostly came in at 45 minutes.

Official time 28'30".

Hopefully next weekend I'll be at Pwllheli. I notice that a group at Pwllheli this week finished between 55 and 63 minutes.

Good morning everyone! A beautiful mild and sunny morning here. I decided to have a change of scene and go to Doddington Hall parkrun today, an out and back on a Sustrans route along a former railway track. I got chatting beforehand to a lady in a Tissington Trail Marathon t-shirt (I’m signed up for the half in September). She has a place in next month’s Boston Marathon, based on her time, and had run the 11 miles from home to do parkrun, then was running home again 😳😳😳 Anyway, my 5k time was 31.38, 139/193 and 2nd fastest in my age group (of 4 😂) with an age grading of 60.48%. Also my fastest parkrun time of 2022. Unusually our fastest finisher was female 🥳🥳🥳 in a time of 15.55. Wow 😮 Happy running and enjoy the sunshine if you have it where you are!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

Very well done Sandie . Coincidentally 31:38 is my best ever time at parkrun. I haven’t got close since the pandemic though.

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

My best is 28.48 but ditto! In fact I think I’ve only managed a sub 30 5k once since the start of the pandemic and that was when I chose a downhill route in France 😂

Good to see you getting your running confidence back Sandie. Congratulations on your time. Seeing an age grade of over 60% is always confidence boosting I think. The sunshine is amazing this morning, I’m itching to get out there. Good travelling today x 👍👏👏

Each parkrun brings something new. A very nice sunny day. This time the run director said in his briefing that the course was flooded in a couple of places. I didn't appreciate that he really meant it was flooded. There were 2 sections each probably 5-10m long where we all went splashing through resulting in instant wet feet. Since we do 2 laps of this area it resulted in a double dose of paddling.

Despite all that everything seemed to come together for me and I ran a PB of 21:44 although Mr Garmin told me the run was unproductive and I was getting less fit!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to 00marks

A PB of 21.44 then Mr Garmin thinks that is unproductive and you are getting less fit, really, tell him to, well I don't want to swear but I think you may have swore back at him, a big congratulations from me on that PB, well done.

Hello Parkrunners, 15th Parkrun for me today in a beautifully sunny (but still a bit windy) Lowestoft. I was expecting more runners than normal today given the weather but it was about average at 318. After a chilly start line, I was glad that I chose short sleeves because running with the sun on your face gets pretty warm, pretty fast! The race felt good for most of the way round. I was aware that my splits were looking fairly good for me and a PB was a good possibility. I just had to keep going despite my hips whinging at me a bit in the last km. Finished with a PB of 36:12, 15 secs knocked off my previous PB. Home for a celebratory hot cross bun!

Good afternoon Damien and all!

Bit late again today. We had a post parkrun Core Team meeting at the local cafe and then we were in need of more bacon for our rolls!

Totally glorious day weather wise in Stratford, I’ve heard chiff chaffs and seen bees and butterflies. It’s certainly brought the visitors into the town but strangely not to parkrun. We had quite a low turn out at 270. Still in some ways that was quite nice as it didn’t suffer from any congestion.

It’s been a funny old week, as on Monday my mojo got the biggest boost it’s ever likely to have - I got a ballot place in the London Marathon! Sorry to everyone I’ve bored silly with this during the week but I’m still stupidly excited about it! Parkruns will start to become the middle bit of longer runs in the coming months.

So today I felt pretty good and I put my speedy shoes on. My 98th run. It was harder work because, in my excitement, my gentle week had a few more miles added to it! But I just nipped in at 26:59, so my fastest time this year again. It will be interesting to see if/how things change with my speedy runs.

Hope you all had great runs today and you have a wonderful runny week too 😀💪👍👏👏👏

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Doesn’t it just! I’m not sure Dexy, I should do something. I’m going to make some cakes or flapjack or something, maybe the tail will go on again.

I’m thinking of a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy theme for the marathon as it’s the 42nd 😁

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to TailChaser

🤣🤣. I took the easy option with cakes. 4 pots of brownie, flapjack and millionaires shortbread squares from Waitrose for £8.

The tail is a great idea. My shirt should be here on Wednesday but I’ll be wearing my apricot shirt next weekend.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

That may be the best idea Dexy, that keeps everyone happy and I don’t have to write ‘100’ on each of them 😁

Went down to congleton as it's a super flat course around a lake in an attempt to achieve the fabled sub 20 minute parkrun. Probably not a wise idea given I'd done a 20 mile run on Thursday and summited 5 peak district ethels Friday. Threw the idea out the window when I clocked a 4:30 first k so just happy to get a new parkrun best of 21:06. The next scheduled attempt will be on May 7th, 2 days before my 36th birthday and I'll be travelling up to the super flat York parkrun for that. Next week back home at lyme park hopefully. Not been there in a while now. Feel like I've been avoiding that big first hill!

The fun I had today totally made up for the 5am alarm! I was excited to be joining Dexy5 UpTheStanley Oldgirlruns JonathanP and David_G at Southsea PR for Dexy’s special 100th (not birthday, as some people quipped when they saw her balloon!!!) 🎈💯🏃‍♀️

As UTS was RD’ing I arranged to meet at 8am so we could walk over in good time. He had a super special guest, which anyone who’s read Dexy’s separate post will know was Dame Kelly Holmes! I got a Bristol tourist shout-out!! 👏👏

Windy as you like running out, and the relief at the turnaround point was immense! But the sun shone non-stop and it was fun to be back running with Dexy for the majority of the run. A slooooow start, but my official time was a Southsea PB of 35:37 (Garmin 34:53). Apparently some wonky timekeeping, but who cares, it was ace, and our breakfast afterwards was very welcome. 🥰

Hi Damien, huge well done to you for volunteering- it really feels good doesn’t it! I wore my brand new 50 Volunteer tee shirt this morning for a very special Southsea parkrun day! It was Dexy5’s 100th, so of course celebrations were to be had with cheekychipmunks getting up at 0-darn-30 to get here on time, David-G from along the coast courtesy of a Saturday rail timetable and JonathanP from one of our other Portsmouth parkruns. UpTheStanley was RD and, as expected, navigated his way expertly round a group of beginner volunteers from one of our local medical practices who came mob-handed (🙏) and the first outing for parkrun’s newest sponsor in the form of a De Longhi coffee outlet who were accompanied by their brand ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes! She announced our shout outs and stayed well beyond her allocated time chatting and having photos taken with anyone who wanted - I did remind her to make sure she took time to actually go down onto the beach while she was here! It was a glorious sunny morning but with a cool easterly breeze and having done something to my knee last night I ended up by walking most of the route with a trot in to the finish to show willing! But I was happy with my parkrun time of 46:50, which is quicker than I can run it at the moment anyway! A great day marred only by my 13 year old washing machine packing up on me this afternoon - but in line with forum positivity, I shall simply look forward to shopping for a new one next week! Happy running folks!

Hi there, what a beautiful morning it was, and wow did it show in most people's faces, most were smiling and the mood at our Parkrun was really nice. Ive been practicing 'being in the moment ' so instead of being focused on how far I still have to go against how I feel, I just focused on how I was right then, how lovely the sunshine was, what nice scenery etc and....... I got my second fastest time 26:42 so I was delighted!! Been out this morning and did 7 miles and did the same again, concentration was on where I was, how I was feeling , how grateful I am to live in the countryside and not in a town and the miles just rolled by,! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️😄
