Thatβs me, Iβm back on The Magic Plan π! Having mulled over a few different ideas I have gone back to the tried and tested method to get me back to 10k. I have completed it twice before, for both time and distance, This time I am revisiting the distance version again to get ready for a 10k in March that in a moment of weakness I allowed my sister to sign me up for. It is held in the village where we both grew up and where she and my parents still live. My sister is well ahead of me in the preparation stakes, but if I follow the plan Iβll finish it ahead of the 10k date in March and with a bit of time to spare, if needed.
For various reasons I had a few weeks without running in late November and December, but I have been running more regularly again since Christmas and Iβm back to 5ks now. I am mindful to step up gradually, so I am going to tweak the plan occasionally if I feel it necessary and convert some of the longer runs to Jeffing instead. The wriggle room that I have will allow me to then repeat Jeffing runs as full runs. I hope that makes sense? π Any advice or suggestions appreciated.
Today wasnβt a bad start, with Mr Garmin telling me I clocked my fastest 1k, which wasnβt deliberate but a pleasant surprise. I suspect it was largely due to the downhill stretch I was on at the time rather than anything I did π!
Note to self - rediscover my inner snail π as that is what is going to get me to the end of the 10k. Iβll leave the speed to my sister!
Great idea to revisit the Magic Plan. I did that too - although I must confess I didn't follow it to the letter but used the increments of distance increases as a guide. Signing up to an event is a great way to keep up the motivation as well. I would love to do a 10k event but will have to wait until I get a bit faster as I'm now just outside the 90 minute cut off. Revisiting Speed podcadts for me??? π±
Hi Fionamags. Yes, the motivation is there, even if itβs just getting myself around! Itβs funny, but I have never run any part of the route that Iβll be doing. Iβve walked bits of it, but it will be quite new to me on the day. I donβt know whether thatβs a good thing or notβ¦.. π€¨
Maybe that's a good thing? You won't have any distance markers in your head and the new route plus the buzz of the event might just carry you along very nicely. Looking forwards to hearing about it.
How lovely to have a race in a memorable place for you π That will be a special run. Itβs a good idea to give yourself wriggle room and to tweak the plan to suit you. Good luck with the training and enjoy it!
Iβm tweaking my current plan too π It makes sense to personalise training plans and make them more specific to the individual as weβre all so different.
Sounds like a plan. Best wishes for it and for the March 10k. I definitely recognise your thinking with jeffing. Itβs what Iβve been doing with my longer runs, primarily as a strategy of injury-minimisation. Without my trying, itβs also produced some great times, comparable with or better than my all-runs. Iβll allow myself to oscillate between the two approaches, depending on how Iβm feeling. I find that planning to Jeff emboldens me and makes my long runs all the more fun.
I just saw this on instagram from womens running uk, thought I would share, not sure why it shows miles for training for a 10k but found the intervals interesting, good luck with your training and race
Thanks H4CS. I saw this too while I was searching for ideas, but I also got confused by the miles. I liked the intervals though and that gave me the idea about using Jeffing. πItβs handy to have it here to refer too - thanks!
Always good to have a plan, we did the timed version the the distance version then did other things, how lovely though to have a sister to encourage each other
Good idea! Of course you will acheive it too! There are so many of us who have had stop/start progress over the last few months, but I wish you good luck and look forward to your future posts!I must kick myself into gear too to be honest and get back to those 10ks! Hmmm...
Good luck with the 10 k lab DD. I was hoping to start to build up again but Iβm still trying to get to 5k. Hi is still niggly 24 hours after 3k run so Iβm just biding my time a bit might have to settle for 3 k runs for the time being π€π€π€π€
You can trust the magic plan for sure Delly-dot. It's great to have a race to look forward to, and to mix it with a family get together is even better..
