“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” (L M Montgomery)
Happy Halloween and congratulations to everybody for reaching the end of this month’s Quest. Shake-and-run and I hope you have had a spooktacular final week. The weather has certainly decided to throw challenges at some of us over the last few days.
We would love to hear whether you have achieved your goals this month. Shakes has broken her local parkrun, 5k and 10k PBs, so has had a great month and I completed the Great South Run (although slightly slower than 2 years ago and have already signed up for next year to try to put that right 😂😂)and Lincoln 10k this morning in a monsoon to round off the month.
This week’s photo collage was taken on Thursday when we met up at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire - a beautiful, peaceful place with some very moving memorials.
We will hand over now to Instructor57 who will be your guide for November. Good luck to him and thank you to all you lovely runners who have commented, motivated and inspired each other over the last month 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing your journeys with you.

….and it’s congratulations from me too. If you have met your targets or just made to the end of the month, you are all achievers, so well done. It has been a pleasure to be your host for this month so thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Woohoo 🥳🙌 Well done! Sounds like distance running is becoming your thing. Good luck with the HM plan. I’ve done 1 so far just before lockdown 1 and no. 2 is booked for the Tissington Trail next September. Well, I did vow I’d never do another one 😂😂
Thanks for hosting this month Sandie and Shakes! 🎉
I’ve had a very disrupted few weeks of running, and my yoga has taken a hit too. However, I was able to complete the GSR 13 minutes quicker than 2 years ago and at least I’ve been able to get out for regular short runs to keep me ticking over. I even managed a couple of yoga sessions last week, so hopefully I can start fitting them back in more regularly. 🤞
Basically I did manage to complete my Quest, but it was a bit hit and miss!
Ah well, you have had a busy month and you still fitted in as much as you felt you could, so kudos! Winter’s a good time to get back to regular yoga (which I’m planning to do too) then start planning for some parkrun tourism 😃
Thank you for helping and encouraging Questers this month! Beautiful gardens too!
I hoped to run 39K or more in the final week of October. I have run 44K in the last week, so target achieved I guess!
In August when I completed a run through of C25K I hoped that by the end of November I would be running 42K at 7 min / km. A few weeks before that I am running 44K @ avg pace 5:45 which is a good level for me, certainly much better than at the beginning of June when I was not running at all. I hope to maintain this level now!
2nd objective - sleeping 8 hours per night has slipped a little in the past week, but I have been concentrating on running and I'm so pleased to have achieved that goal I kind of don't mind!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been following your posts and know you get out as much as you can given your very busy and stressful job so perhaps a quest might be a step too far just now. Keep up the posts, though, they’re brilliant 😃
Thank you so much, there’s very few of us left now who haven’t had Covid, I have my booster booked for Wednesday so i’m keeping my fingers crossed, once the home had had 10 days clear of cases we can stop daily testing which is something to look forward to I love reading about your runs and races too
Thank you 😊 We are so glad you enjoyed it and congratulations on your final soggy 10k. The NMA is definitely worth a visit - as this was an autumn quest, I didn’t include any photos of the actual memorials, but very moving and thought provoking.
Thank you Sandie1961 and Shake-and-run for leading us on this Oktoberquest its been great checking in each week.
It makes a real difference to me having this space to share and acknowledge how my monthly activities are going...🤗Well done to both of you on your smashing acheivements this month, shining examples!🏃♀️🏃♀️⭐⭐
I am pleased that I have increased my Taking the Time to Run to twice a week during October, which has resulted in pleasing results and I'm now trending faster which makes me smile.☺
My cross training of Yoga with Adriene has gone well, because I really enjoy it, so it's never difficult to find mat time every day🙏
P.E HIIT with Joe Wicks has dropped off a little, but I have still done some every week.🤸♀️
Dry October happened from the 10th onwards apart from a glass of red wine once this last week (with steak 😏)
I am feeling fitter and trimmer going into November and look forward to joining the November Quest to keep this up...
Well done fellow Questers, and Happy Halloween to all.🍁 xxx
Fabulous BBR 🥳🥳 When you think how far you have come since you were stuck on the IC, you have done brilliantly. Good luck for November and don’t forget the Granny goals 👵
Ha, thank you Sandie, yes, I'm definately on the up again now, stronger and getting fitter all the time🤞Don't worry Granny goals will always come first, it's just the bestest thing and lighting up my life more than I ever imagined!💙💞❤❤❤❤xxx
What a lovely venue for a meet up - hope none of it was flooded, I've been when a lot was under water. So much to reflect on there, so many snippets of little known or near forgotten history that will have had big impacts on some families.
Well, despite your lovely team Quest leading, I cannot say I have had a good Quest this month, not in terms of achieving the goals I set for myself anyway.
I haven't sent off my Power of Attorney forms (although I have reviewed them and Health & Welfare is actually all done apart from a final decision on whether I want to add any more specificity and all the printing and signing and witnessing (I have no trouble contemplating incapacity or mortality, I do have trouble with printers and organising people to be in the same place at the same time etc etc!).
I haven't had a run every week. I haven't had a yoga session every week (although I did have two this week so the numbers are right and today is not yet over)
It's been a hard old month - family health, my health, Google's health - and that's the main reason those goals weren't achieved, rather than that the goals weren't right and I did other things to look after myself and my all round fitness. So... rubbing my hands together with anticipation for November!
Thankfully we went before the bad weather got there! The memorials certainly had an impact on us.
It does sound as though you have had a tough month. It happens to us all, but I’m sure you’ll set yourself some more goals when the time is right. You did the right thing in just looking after yourself and prioritising the more important stuff 😊
Nice pics! Autumn can be lovely (if it doesn't rain 😶).
I had hoped to have reached my first 10 mile by today, but a badly behaving sciatic nerve has decided differently. I do feel lucky I could still fit in two 5K's and one 10K this past week even though I had planned for two 5K's, a 14K and a 16.1K. But something is better than nothing!
My 10 mile plan has just been postponed a bit now. Not sure yet until when. Besides working up to 10 miles, I keep my main quest at two 5K + one 10K per week. This coming week will be less again due to my 4 weekly IV though. But whatever of runs I can get in, as long as it is not none! I go crazy without a regular run!
Sometimes circumstances just get in the way. Be kind to yourself, don’t take any risks and do it when you are ready. You clearly still have the mojo. Plenty of time x
Thanks for the Quest Sandie! All goals met: running 3x week, Parkrun in Russia (well almost a Parkrun lol) and...my goal was to run 45km this month, I managed 55.93km, which beats my extended target of 55km too.
Hi Sandie1961 and Shake-and-run Happy Halloween!!! Hope you're both well and thanks for running the quests this month. Lovely photos btw.I almost completed all of my goals:* run x 3 times a week: - yes apart from 2 weeks when I only ran twice
*slowly increase distance with ju ju's magic plan - yes have reached 8km now
*cross train twice a week: - only managed this 1 week and 1 week I didn't do any cross training at all.
*to run at 3 different parkruns and to volunteer at one - yes all done
*to get +7 hours sleep a night - I would say that I managed this for 3 out of the 4 and a bit weeks.
Overall I'm pleased with my results as I am still continuing to make progress with reaching my first 10k. I did decide to cut back on all physical activity for 6 days as I was feeling generally fatigued. They say it is a good idea to cut back every 3 - 4 weeks and I hadn't really eased up since March when I restarted c25k. Looking forward to some more questing next month!
You had quite a list of goals, so well done on completing so many. You’re right to take a bit of a break if you’re not feeling up to it. It won’t adversely affect your fitness over a week or two. Good luck for November!
