5K Zone 3 Run 🥵

I did go for my usual Saturday run yesterday, but would you know it - I didn’t have time to write it up. What with hospital visits and chores, the day just ran away with itself. So - here it is now. Better late than never!

With my Dad doing well in hospital I could turn my thoughts to a lovely, slow run. I had hoped to do a much longer run, but time was short yesterday.

I decided to try a Zone 3 run and this largely worked. I was able to control the run very well, but although I didn’t have to slow to a walk at all, I did have to slow down occasionally, which meant that negative splits went out of the window again!

I was also a little concerned that following my Jeffing run earlier this week I may not be able to keep going on a straight run. I needn’t have worried on that score, I didn’t have any trouble at all keeping going.

It was very obvious on my run that my heart rate increased on the inclines, so I just pulled back on pace whenever that happened. The start of the 5th Km has quite a steep incline just after the beginning and it was about that time that I decided to allow my heart rate to go into Zone 4 and take off the brakes to finish strong, which I did. I really felt it, though. It had been a humid run and I don’t cope well in the heat. I was pleased to push the button and end the run! No PBs on this run, but I did briefly see 5:35mins / km appear on my watch.

To the steps to look at the stats and mission accomplished! Home for coffee ☕️

Well done Jools !I wondered what had happened to your write up 😁

Glad to hear your dad is still improving 👍

And great to get that 5k under your belt , and a nice quick last split there 😁

Thanks, Ian! Yes, the other splits were governed by my heart rate 😊

Pleased you had a good run. Sorry I borrowed your negative splits on Friday (the one and only time I have achieved 100%negative splits on a run.) I have returned them to you and am back to normal with my pace all over the place today so you may find your next run more "negativesplitty ". Good luck and happy running!!!

Haha! Thank you, Week7 😊. I’m just pleased to be out there running at all - tough times. Every run seems like a major victory! I’m glad I wasn’t planning a run today, though. The weather here is dreadful. 🌧💨

You're right.Any run is a good run! Have you tried bad weather running? I quite enjoy running in the wind and rain once I get going.Hader to go out of the front door but that post run shower is bliss!!

I’ve occasionally got caught out in torrential rain (which I don’t mind) but I do not like running when it’s windy! On the whole, if the weather is not good, I’d rather stay at home 😊

Glad your Dad is doing well but hospital visiting does take it out of you. Good run for you on Saturday. I'll take any pace starting with a 5 or 6 or7 for that matter! It's bouncing down here at the moment so another cup of tea it is 😀

Thank you 🙏. It’s not often I see a pace starting with 5, so I was pleased with that. The rain has stopped here this afternoon so just got back from a blustery walk! 😊

Always good to read your posts, even if delayed. Well done. That sounds like a solidly controlled run to me. I imagine that negative splits must be near-impossible to plan for when the terrain is changing as much as it does in your current neighbourhood.👍

Thanks! The changing terrain does not help with negative splits if I’m running to heart rate. As soon as I hit a slight incline, my heart rate increases so I slow down. Ah well! I am gradually getting used to it here, but I’m looking to move over the next few months so it will be different again 😊

Good to hear your Dad continues to improve 🥰

It was apparently 95% humidity for my Park Run…no wonder my face and hair were all sweaty! 🥵

Moving soon then…will running routes help you decide…maybe not so many hills? 😉😂

Thank, Lottie! Yes, I want to move somewhere with good (preferably flat!) running routes. Here’s hoping 🤞🤞🤞
