3K Run in the sun ☀️

Woke up at 6 a.m. to overcast skies, not quite so humid. Today, I deviated from my routine. I put my running clothes on before my cuppa, not quite sure why! Perhaps because I was half asleep 💤.

Cuppa drank, leg swings and out the door. Straight run this morning, 3K. Already decided as it’s part of my routine now and working well! I’ve decided I must be a creature of habit, occasionally rebelling and doing something different, just to surprise myself!

I start my warm up walk to the top of the road and choose my music while I’m walking. I reflect that for some reason I haven’t done any of the guided runs for some time, but I shelve that thought and choose Abbey Road. I start the music and the run - as I do so the sun comes out. How lovely! I can hear and see the kites soaring above. I’m starting off easy as this is a straight run. I’ll push myself a little for the last km but other than that, the run can take me where it will. Just a 3K run!

I enjoy the first km as I warm up and increase pace slightly for the second. It’s slightly harder work as there is an incline up to the common. I want to pull out a few stops for the third km, but it’s uphill at the beginning, so I have to work a bit harder before I can fly downhill past my Dad’s 😊

I end the run and my hair isn’t even wet this morning, so it must be less humid 😊

Back home for stretches, coffee and porridge 🥣

A great way to start the day!

Splits:

8:18, 7:41, 6:43

Look at those splits! when we tried negative splits we started off really slow but then when we tried to speed up later we had nothing left to speed up with, but will persevere, will manage them one day Sounds like a very enjoyable run

Maybe you’re not starting slowly enough 😊 or maybe it doesn’t suit your style of running! Yes, it was a good run, because each run is different, it makes things more interesting 😊

You might be right, last year we were doing a garmin plan and once a week we had 3k negative splits, I just remember pumping my arms and legs as hard as i could and it being slower than ever I like different runs, keeps it interesting, tomorrow we are doing a 20 minute after work and will start really slowly then hopefully a 5k jeff sat or sun, but sadly I’m racking up a load of extra hours at work as staffing is dire so will see what happens

Well done, and your trademark negative splits once again. 👍

No running for me since Tuesday morning. Poorly sick here. 🤒

Oh dear, nowster! Hoping you get well soon 🤞

I have a GP telephone appointment in about an hour. It's probably related to the "ouch" thing I mentioned in Tuesday's post.

Oh, the kidney stone ouch?

Yep. Herself got some test strips out of her community nurse kit and the results strongly suggested a UTI.

Well you are really on a roll with the running. Those negative splits are something to envy - like WillowandSola I still haven't managed them. I almost did it on the last run except the first run was faster than I thought so that let me down. Great idea to get out first thing before letting the faffage demon take over. I must give that a whirl as well. Lovely photo as well.

Thanks! I can’t get those negative splits every time because it’s not flat here and I don’t try for them on longer runs, but they do make my runs easier. I burn out quickly if I start too fast! 😊

Hello Jools, Well done on your run! Clothes before cup of tea. Variety is the spice of life they say! I invariably run without any drink. Just go as soon as I am dressed and gear ready. Definitely half asleep when I set off. Doesn't the gear seem to grow. The other day I had put my ear phones on but forgot to turn them on! I wondered why my podcast was broadcast for all to hear. It was neighbours hearing my next instalment of Desert Island Discs and looking towards me that alerted me to that the sound was coming from my phone which was in my running belt. My neighbours are serious runners and Mr Neighbour was setting off for a run with a friend.

I also have lots of hills here in Derbyshire, so I fully appreciate that negative slits can be rout dependant. We have rivers nearby so I can pick some routes without hills, although I haven't discovered any long routes with out hills.

Anyway, to today I set off in the sun at 6:03. 3.76km, 33m 4s, pace 8:47min/km, elevation gain 33m and average heart rate 125bpm. Just taking things easy, still forgot to be properly mindful of my tendon. I am determined to remember and take careful note on Saturday when I hope to run 8.5km. I plan to take a route where I expect the paths, in part, to be very narrow and the grass to be long and wet, but I can sort myself out when I get back. I've turned back on that route a number of times because I wasn't in the mood for wet legs, wet socks and wet shoes, but I really want to see where 4.25km reaches and how the route has changed since I last went that way.

Happy injury free running to you. 😊🏃🏻‍♀️

It sounds like you had a good run today! My Saturday 90 minute run is weather dependent - hopefully I’ll beat the showers somehow, but I’m not in the mood for running a long run in the rain. Good luck with your 8.5 km run 👍

Yes my run was good although it would be better still if my tendon were back to normal. Forecast here for Saturday am is only 10% chance of rain. Because of our hill weather easily changes from the forecast. Like you I do not plan to set off in rain. 😊

Hello again Jools, Already changing my mind about Saturday's route. We have had so much rain. I think that I shall have to take a road route. Hedges are too high so it does feel rather like being in a tunnel. What are you routes like? Perhaps the strata maps suggest thatchy are through built up areas?

Jools2020 profile image

My routes are through built up areas. The common has steep slopes so I avoid them! So previous rain makes little difference. At some stage I will drive to prettier routes.

It would take more discipline for me to run through built up areas, although I do enjoy looking at how folks gardens are growing. I like to think of my runs as sight seeing. But as you can imagine, one's routes all become rather familiar. Driving to a start point isn't something that I have done for ages, perhaps two years. I am blessed with quite a number of lovely routes. Here's to good longer runs tomorrow. 😊🏃🏻‍♀️🌸
