My Bridge to 10K training log πŸ’™ [W2D2 & W2D3]

Hi everyone, my name is Julia and I'm running the Bridge to 10K programme following Ju-Ju's Magic Plan (distance edition). I've decided to log my progress during the course of the programme and I'm hoping to provide a motivating read for the other members of this community. I do all my runs on a treadmill and I use a neat little game called Zwift to supplement my training.

Bridge to 10K Week 2 Day 2

Today's post is a double whammy since I did both D2 and D3 so close together! I ran D2 with quite the unusual gear - my partner was cycling on Zwift and poached the HR monitor, laptop and fan! πŸ˜…

I felt naked without a HR monitor as I find my progress to be strongly reflected in my HR. During my very first 5K my HR was in the high 170s, now it's closer to 150-155. I just find that seeing that number makes the run much easier and I can gauge my endurance better.

Nevertheless, 5K was a quick one. After a short segment at the start I didn't once dip down to my 'usual' 8 km/h speed. I got quite close to my 5K PR, I was a couple of seconds off. If I had my HR monitor on I'm sure I would've pushed a little harder and gotten it. Oh well, I'll run a 5K every week during the course of the programme, I'm sure there's a lot of PRs to be had 😜

Bridge to 10K Week 2 Day 3

Today I ran with the MHG group again. The group going at 8 km/h ensured I wouldn't do any crazy sprints at the start and burn myself out well before the 6K mark. My Zwift RunPod underreported my pace somewhat today and I kept getting dropped from the group even though my treadmill was at a constant 8 km/h. That's why I occasionally raised my pace; to catch up with the group.

Midway I developed a nasty side stitch which I just couldn't manage to run through. Thankfully a short 10 second pause is all that it took to subside. I managed to sprint back to the group and ALMOST developed the stitch again!

After we hit the 5K mark the official run was over and I still felt like I had a lot of gas in the tank. I sprinted for the last kilometre, slowly building up to 12 km/h pace. It's crazy, last time I put my treadmill on 12 km/h I was on the verge of falling off!

Anyway, that's Week 2 under wraps. See you in Week 3!

Juju’s plan is great for getting to 10k but 5k on a treadmill is plenty enough fir me. πŸ₯΅

Remember that 80% of your running should be at easy pace so slow right down for your long distance each week. I used to run my 5k at parkrun as I found bit a good distance to go fast on.

The 4k is great for trying hill work or something a bit different like intervals.

Have fun and don’t forget you can have more than 1 rest day if needed.

I'm an indoorsy video game nerd and I absolutely relish the chance of being able to exercise indoors and progress in a game at the same time by doing so (Zwift), so I'm probably gonna run on the treadmill all they way to a marathon someday! 😜

I went slow on today's long run, only speeding up during the final kilometre when I realized I had a lot more in my tank. I haven't done anything special on the short runs except going fast, but maybe I'll eventually try something out.

I've been trying to be mindful of my body and avoid overtraining. I'm taking the weekend off, so that's two rest days in a row! πŸ™‚
