A much cooler 4K 😊

My alarm went off at 5 a.m. this morning, but I turned it off and went back to sleep 😴 Got up at 7 ish, made tea and had a biscuit, deciding not to run. I didn’t feel like it. I was tired. The Gremlins had won! 😈 or had they? I took my tea back upstairs and somehow found myself putting on my running clothes and doing a few leg swings - not quite sure how that happened! Running shoes on and out the door before I could argue with myself πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

It was very overcast with a slight drizzle, but it was wonderfully cool. I’ve struggled so much running in the heat these last few weeks, so it was good to feel that cool air on my skin as I did my warm up walk. The drizzle was refreshing!

I start to run - really easy for the first km and steady for the second. My heart rate shoots up, but I ignore it and settle into the run trying to find a comfortable pace. I’m later out this morning, so there are a lot of people about and there is traffic, too, so I’m not able to run in the road as I prefer to do. The road dips down towards the end of the second km, but right at the end there is a short but fairly steep incline which always catches me. I have to stop to cross the road (which I’m grateful for) but once I’m across I try to pick up my pace a little to make up for it!

The third km is uneventful but it does slope gently upwards towards the end. I reach the junction and decide on a 4K run today, so start to pick up the pace to try and finish strong. It’s an effort! This 4K route does finish on a downhill section, but not as much as the 5K route. I take advantage of it anyway and am pleased with my last km split.

Run over and I congratulate myself on another run - another victory! I enjoyed it more because it was cooler.

Splits:

8:38, 8:30, 8:13, 6:34

Haha, yes, I know! I even dunked the biscuit! I really didn’t think I’d be running 😊

Well done on sleeping in and yet still doing a run!

I love it when your heads saying "no I'm not going" but your body's putting your kit on 🀣 it's a weird feeling but one that gets me out the door quite regularly! πŸ‘πŸ»

Well done for beating those gremlins! I agree, it’s much more pleasant to run when it’s cooler too. It’s amazing how busy the streets get so quickly! All the best 😊😊😊.

Giving the gremlins the slip, having tea and a dunked biscuit, and still getting your trademark negative splits? What's not to like? πŸ‘

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10β€’ in reply tonowster

Haha, the dunked biscuit was great, but I’ve always preferred to run fasted for the shorter runs, so it was odd that I still managed to get out of the door - and no stitch on the run. 😊 Negative splits definitely a big plus 😊

Haha! The power of the kit! Once you put it on you have no choice!! Well done for going out. 5am is way too early anyway! 😁

Yes, definitely the power of the kit! Running later this morning turned out ok, too - but I usually like running early 😊

Well done beating those gremlins, your subconscious knew what it was doing. Happy running πŸ€—

Thanks, Grannyhugs! Perhaps I should send my subconscious on the run without me, I could stay home drinking tea and dunking biscuits πŸ˜‚

So, by the time I left for work this morning you had done tea and biscuits, battled with Gremlins, beaten the Gremlins AND completed a run with your trade mark negative splits-what a start to the day!

Well done! I know exactly what you mean about running fasted but one dunked biscuit doesn't really count does it?

I have been known to dunk a spoon into the peanut butter jar before now just before heading out on a run πŸ₯œ

BTW - what biscuit was it?

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10β€’ in reply toBirdlady64

Thanks, Diane - you’re right, it didn’t make any difference as it turned out 😊. It was a plain Rich Tea biscuit!

Mmm a spoonful of peanut butter sounds a much better idea!
