Today is the day. It’s been a while since my last longer run at the beginning of March. I’ve been doing shorter runs just to get out there, sometimes when I haven’t felt like it, just to keep going. I woke up this morning and thought I’d run for an hour, so found a guided run on the Nike Run Club app with Coach Bennett. I like to think about what he says as I’m running and I’m much less likely to zone out than when I’m listening to music.
Long sleeved top and shorts! It’s so nice to run in shorts again 😊. I could have managed wearing a tee shirt, but I don’t like to feel cold at the start of a run and for me, the long sleeved top was just fine.
Stretches and warm up walk done and off I go! Running easy and following CB’s instructions. My pace is steady, ebbing and flowing as I like to do on longer runs. The air quality is ‘fair’ which is probably why my heart rate went up quite quickly into Zone 4, but I keep going. I decide not to be a drama queen about the inclines!
I set out this morning a little later that I would have liked, I must stop the chit-chat with my brother on the mornings that I run! I met all the parents taking their children to school and the pavements were quite busy.
The last km is downhill so it’s easy to pick up the pace (7:02). The guided run ends, but I carry on past ‘home’ and down a side road for the 8K. I’m happy with this longer run and walk back up the slope. My Dad is obviously having a lie in this morning as the house is quiet! Stretches and coffee ☕️ 😊

Well done Julia, bet that felt good, stretching it further now, hope your feeling a bit more settled now, especialy with family around, and those grandkids must be loving you being nearby!!! 😀
Congratulations Jools2020 on running that 8K, if you wish to run 10K that is fine, first of all, run 9K the week after you ran that 8K and the following week have ago at 10K, in other words, increase your distance by 1K a week.
I have been doing that for a few weeks now Julia, on a Wednesday I have been running 1K more a week, last Wednesday I ran 8K, this morning I have just come back from running 9K and guess what, next week I intend to run 10K which will be the first 10K I have ran this year.
Well done, AlMorr! I did run 10K earlier in the year, in fact I did a 10 mile run in January. But then life got in the way and my fitness tailed off, so I’m trying to get back to my former fitness 😊
Great run for you Jools after all the upheaval 😁👍 glad to see you getting back into your stride. Think you've motivated me to go out just for the reward of coffee and stretches 😁👍
How lovely, aren’t the NRC guided runs amazing? Having recently found them I’m a huge fan. And to get home to a quiet house to enjoy your coffee without interruptions is lovely, this will have set you up for the day ,
I love the guided runs! I did once do the ‘Grateful 8K’ and I was muttering most of the way round, because I was feeling sorry for myself and not at all grateful. But CB won me round and I was grateful at the end 😊
I was chuffed to bits to have done this 8K run today and it has set me up for the rest of the day. Dad was very chatty over lunch, and came up with some new stories. He’s 93 and has Alzheimer’s so my brother is enjoying having me here to help with caring for him.
Well done Jools. You're clearly back in the swing of it again in your new location. The air quality may not be quite so good but I bet you didn't have the cold Norfolk wind that blew through my bones yesterday.
