My personal goal for the month of April was to be able to run continuously for 10km. Feeling fairly confident at 5km I was able to run 7.5km in the first week. The following week the distance was increased by half a kilometre and last week I achieved 8.5km.
I’m a lucky girl as I have two amazing supporters to help me. TailChaser came with me for the first two weeks and was just brilliant. Happy to run at my snail pace, she chatted with me as we ticked off the kms while enjoying the beautiful flowers in the gardens we ran past. Last week Katnap came too so I had two excellent runners to keep me distracted from the monkey on my shoulder who was trying his best to destroy my confidence. A pub garden visit was proposed as a celebration finish and we shivered in cool temperatures, so glad to be able to be there. This week, with both my wingmen, we aimed for 9km, and to liven it up a bit we took ourselves off-road. Big mistake, the rough ground played havoc with my joints and some steep and rough steps were too much and I had to walk up and down them. However, I was able to shout Happy Birthday to Mr Shakespeare himself as we ran through Holy Trinity churchyard and a 9km distance was completed (the roads felt like silk after the trails, such bliss).
We are all set to do the big 10 next week, my supporters/coaches are still prepared to run with me and a flat even route has been promised. I will not do as much cycling this week but will do a gentle short run as my preparation. Wish me luck!
