Healing calf muscle

Joggingonthewildside profile image

So a week ago I hobbled home with a painful calf ..I’ve done the recommended NHS exercises and decided to try a fast walk today.. all went well and managed to march 3.5 kms so it’s looking good for a return to the magic plan perhaps on Monday 🤞

Hope it continues to goes well 😊💪

Thank you

I seem to be following in your footsteps.. I don’t seem to be able to get past 2kms before the calf gremlin starts to niggle .. I was going so well today but then I could feel it .. not painful but uncomfortable so decided to walk back home ... will up my calf muscle exercises to see if that helps but I’m so fed up with it ! Grrrr

What a pest 😣 However, whilst I had to stop on that 2.5K , I was still pleased to have run even that distance .

I knew at the back of my mind that frustrating though it was , maybe I could build on it.

As I said I didn’t run for about 3 weeks I think , in addition to thinking it needed longer to heal and I needed to strengthen it , I also didn’t want the disappointments of going out and stopping again 🤷🏼‍♀️😞

I can only speak for myself but having made really good progress and being so delighted with ‘ never been a runner but look ! now I can run euphoria’, I sort of expected just to keep following that same rate of progress .

I maybe forgot yes ! You’re a newbie to running .

I did my stretches, did aerobic or cardio most days but probably failed to think about the strength my legs needed 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think my calf took the strain ( pardon pun 😂) because my glutes and quads etc weren’t doing the work.

I can’t say I’m really back to where I was either , a bit of momentum and motivation for getting to 10 K has faded .

However I’m enjoying 5 & 6 Ks and doing some speed on hills etc. today I just went out round the village and a bit of coast for about 20 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed it .

I’ve found some really good ‘You Tube’ runners stretch and strength videos that I do all the time . Nice physical therapist girls and not as brutal as some of the hard core running people 😂🥵😂

Take it easy , build on that 2.5 K and all will come good.

I’m sitting writing this and I can ‘feel’ that calf of mine is tight , there’s just this hint of it some days 🤷🏼‍♀️ but what I’m doing appears to be just keeping it at a low grumble 😂 don’t feel it at all when running .

All good wishes for your calf recovery 👌😃

Bless you .. what a lovely reply ! Yes I watched a YouTube thing yesterday with some pseudo American doctor showing calf stretches so will start incorporating them .. I’ve been jogging/ running for many years and used also to do Zumba once a week but think now I’m in my mid 60s need to remember that we take longer to heal as we get older but I’m not phased and will battle on

Your run sounds lovely .. I’m in north Wiltshire which is also quite pretty .. kind wishes .. Rachel 🏃‍♀️😀

No , I spent 40 odd years saying I don’t like running ( aka couldn’t do it 😂😕) so I’m a prime candidate for injury maybe 🤷‍♀️

I started C25K because I thought it would be lovely just to run around the village or down to the beach , so I need to remember that when I get a bit ambitious with pace and distance . I enjoyed the run this morning because I was just jogging along enjoying my surroundings not bothered how far I went before turning home 👌😊

Kudos for the Zumba 🥵
