I’d usually like to write positive, upbeat posts, but today I want to share a surprising realisation.
I’ve had a tough week for a number of reasons (lots of family & work stuff going on) which has lead to some sleepless nights this week, and no running
I’ve probably managed to sleep 3-4hrs a night since Monday, so thought a run today would perk me up a bit. I was planning my 1st 10k this bank holiday weekend.
But, as I started my run with Coach Bennett in my ear I could tell this wasn’t going to be easy. In fact it was one of the hardest runs I’ve done since starting C25k last summer. I couldn’t find the energy to run beyond 4k and had to stop and walk home. I’ve never had to give up on a run before, but today I did.
Who would have thought that lack of sleep would have such an impact - well I’m guessing (sort of hoping) it was that.
I’ll try again over the weekend, but here’s reminding you all to take good care of yourselves. Our bodies need sleep, love and attention.....
Happy Easter everyone xx

Oh 58soon , you've clearly been having a really difficult time. Do be kind to yourself too, as emotional stress as well as the physical lack of sleep will affect you.
A rest can really help you come back stronger. I'm a case in point: last Sunday I did my longest-ever run, which ended up including a PB. However, work commitments meant that during the fortnight preceding it, I'd only run once a week, and shorter runs than usual.
So be reassured that 10k is there for you, whether it's this weekend or another time.
Thank you Cmoi. That's so good to hear that you managed your longest ever run after a fortnight of shorter and fewer runs. That certainly makes me feel better and gives me hope for the coming weeks! 😍
Sleep and rest is defo important, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having a tough time. Do you practice yoga, Tai Chi, or any type of meditation? Even just 5 minutes at the end of the day, and setting yourself a bedtime routine will be helpful.
Just as you set aside some time for exercise, you also need to set aside some time for your mind.
We are all deserving of “me time” and self care. Have a good weekend 🥰
Thank you LottieI do practice yoga, but that has gone by the wayside aswell over the past few weeks. You're right - I will set aside 5 minutes at the end of the day for myself. I haven't even managed that, so I will certainly remember to do so. Thank you 😍
I find it really helps...hope it does for you too 🥰
Oh 58soon, lack of sleep is really draining and it is no wonder that your battery felt a bit flat today after several nights of poor sleep. It sounds like you have had a lot going on. I hope you get the chance to rest and recharge your batteries over the next few days. Make your next run a gentle, restorative run. Your 10k is waiting for you, don't worry. ☺️
Oh dear - so many things going on by the sound of it - all have an impact one way or another, on other things in your life, including exercise.Don’t be so hard on yourself - only do what you want to do and only when you’re ready - 10k awaits and you will do it for sure but only when the time is right for you.
Thank you 61Lady. yep, you're right - one things starts to wobble and the rest starts tumbling down! Happy it's a long weekend so chilling out and trying to relax a bit 😍
Hope you find a snoozy few nights to get your running sparkle up again. (There are also some more breathing-focussed yoga with adriene videos, that really helped me with pre-bedtime calming down.)
As ever, CBDB, you have good advice at your fingertips - thank you!I'll check out some of Adrienne's breathing yoga - I away tend to go for the more active ones so I'll certainly look out for the slower ones. Thank you
Lack of sleep really impacts everything for me, not just physically but mentally too. So don’t be hard on yourself, you managed 4K which is still a real stretch for me. When my head is too busy to sleep, I put my headphones on and listen to a 10-15 min help to sleep meditation and most of the time this helps me get a better nights sleep. There are lots available free on YouTube. Worth a try?
Thank you LolaBobs! I have tried listening to sleep stories, but get myself into a panic that I'm not falling asleep! I'll have a look on YouTube for some sleep meditation instead - good idea - thank you 😍
Yes you are right and lack of sleep can stop us doing things that we want to do. Don’t worry though you’ll get to your 10k just not today 🤗 and 4K is amazing when feeling so tired 👍🏃♀️
With all you’ve had going on and the lack of sleep I’m surprised you managed a run at all, 4K is still a good distance. A hard run is normally followed by a good one, so chin up all will be fine, you’ll reach 10k don’t worry 👍🏃♀️
Thank you CouchP - I'm sure you're right - you always have wise words, so I will keep my chin up and wait for the right time for my 10k. At least I can still look forward to it 😍
Hey 58, yes we all need sleep and other stuff going on doesn't help at all. It's tough to get going but you know the words to that old tune ..... 😉 The next one will be better. I've not run for 10 days 😕 cos I've got/had a niggle in my groin and the last thing I want is to get really injured. I did an hour group strength and conditioning today and feel gooood. I'm thinking I'll just do 20 mins run on Monday and see how it goes. Gotta burn off all those choccy eggs somehoo🙂 x
Thanks Blossom. I hope your groin niggles have not got any worse. I'm giving myself a bit of time off too - partly due to time & stress, but also as I tried to lift a Sainsbury's delivery crate yesterday that was too heavy and clicked my back - ouch!!So an easy week, and am thinking about a jeffing run next - haven't done that before, but sounds like a gentler way to get back into things.
Thanks 58. I've decided to make appointment with physio as the niggle is still there after short run yesterday. Really quite uncomfortable. Sorry you've done yer back in, hubby often does that too 😕 and sorry you're stressed etc. Maybe a bit of yoga? Take it easy. We'll get to that 10k at some stage! x
