What’s next ? Repeat or new challenge?

I need to look into it but a few people have mentioned a Consolidation Plan. As I’m VERY slow, think that’s the best option next.

Congratulations Twinkl66, you’ve graduated and your first run in daylight too, that’s a double celebration. I used to go out in the early morning hours as I felt self conscious, but that’s faded now and I go out anytime. You should be very proud of how far you’ve come and what you’ve achieved...Well Done 👏🏻👏🏻🏅🥳🥳

Thank you 😊. Yes, feeling self conscious was the reason for running in the dark. I was surprised that a few people smiled at me yesterday. Mind you, still felt a bit ridiculous when I was overtaken at speed by others out running 🤣.

The thing with people overtaking you is, you don’t know how far they’ve run and they don’t know how far you’ve run, they may have just left home, you may be at the end of your run, plus you’ve only just graduated so you’re still a newbie.

Have you tried the Nike Run Club app, it’s great for consolidation runs. There are lots of coached runs on there of various times and distances, plus it keeps a record of your stats. It’s free too.

Keep running in daylight I promise it gets easier 👍

Thanks for that. I hadn’t heard of Nike Run Club and would like something structured to continue with. Sounds perfect.

Well done! You don’t need to run 5K in 30 minutes. Ever! I still can’t and I graduated last July. Don’t let being slower put you off for running longer distances. It just means you need to build stamina to stay on your feet for longer. That’s what I’ve been doing and I still can’t believe what I’ve been able to achieve. Happy running and congratulations on your graduation 👩‍🎓 👏👏👏👍

Thanks for that. it’s reassuring to hear that others don’t achieve 5K in the time.

Most people don’t on graduation - about 90%. I think I managed 3.2K on my graduation run. I can do 4K in 30 minutes now - on a good day with the wind behind me 😊

I’m about 3.2-3.5, so that’s reassuring. I suppose Couch to 30mins doesn’t quite have the same ring about it 😊.

That’s exactly it! It should be “couch to 30 minutes giving you confidence that soon you’ll be able to run for 5K at your own pace” 😂.

Does this include the warm up/warm down walks, as I can't get my head around how you measure what you actually RUN

Jools2020 profile image

No, I don’t include the warm up and warm down walks. During the programme, when there are no more walking breaks in the middle, it’s easier to record just the running part. I do my warm up walk, then start recording just after I start running. I stop recording when I’ve finished running, then do my warm down walk. I have a sports watch, but there are apps (free) that you can record your runs onto that give you wonderful stats to look at all day!

Thank you

in reply to Jools2020

Silly question really as I guess I know the answer, but just for clarifications sake, does the 5k distance commence when you start running after the 5 minute warm up and end before the 5 minute cool down, or does it include those walking bits. See, I guess that answers it anyway, the clue being in the word "walk" LOL

Many people record the whole thing, including the walks while doing the programme. That’s often due to the fact it would be fiddly just to record the runs as there are so many walking breaks. Once I got to Week 6 run 3, there aren’t any more walking breaks, just the warm up and warm down walks. That’s when I started to record just the running part.
