Winter routine change, a few questions

I’ve gone from running 3 times a week and doing HIIT once, to 2 of each a week.

Does anyone else’s routine change over the winter?

If I’m only running twice a week should it be more maintaining ie running similar distances each week or is it still ok to push on for slightly longer distances over 2 weeks?

Or should I just get on with outside 3 days a week and stop moaning about the cold? 😂

Thank you

Hello LulaHula. This is my 3rd winter running and I've stuck to my run days no matter what. So yes , stop moaning about the cold🤣🤣 and get out there. You're not long in heating up.

Thanks, that’s just the sort of straight talking I needed but probably didn’t want 😂

You can still build up on two runs a week but like Buddy, I also try to keep my run routine the same during the winter. In fact I prefer running in the autumn and winter to hot summer days!❄️🌨🏃‍♀️🌧💦

If you feel cold put on a few more lighter clothes, but not too many, you should not sweat during your runs, try running at least twice a week during the colder weather, your routine need not change during the winter months, however, if you can, run in the daylight, if not buy a good head light.

I do the same all year round.

Sounds like I need just get on with it, it’s just hard when you’re more like a lizard than a person, I’d rather be too hot than anything near chilly 😂

Thanks, I’ll try for 3 again this week

My brain wants to crawl inside and hibernate for the whole winter... so I stick to my plan and make it an even higher priority to embrace the weather, darkness, and lack of motivation to get outside!! i.e. i do the same :)

The only change I'm making is to switch to lunchtime running as it gets so dark at my normal time!

I’ve struggled since summer ended, but have had a couple of lay ups, so blaming them!

Still aiming at 3 times a week but have started going a little later when it’s light although I’ve also invested in a head torch.

My routine has changed because I used to run in the light evenings and now try to do daytimes as much as possible. But I'm still trying to do three times a week. As well as warm kit it's worth investing in some high viz as even in daytime the light is lower visibility.

Hi there, yes my routine has changed a bit in “winter”😩. I’m doing 2 runs a week outdoors and 1 indoors. I’m doing very little high intensity but much more core strength, Pilates and spinning. I find wet running conditions is far more stressful on my joints which I am working hard to prevent at my age (57) and that combination works for me.

My routine hasn't changed much. The biggest dilemma at the moment is how much to wear when going outside.

We had periods of torrential rain in the summer. The only difference is that the rain's colder now.

I put on my waterproof and headed off into the light rain only to be met with horizontal freezing rain 😂 but and here comes the good bit I ran a 5k pb - 34.33.

Thank you everyone, have a great Tuesday xx
