Tis a yakky wet welsh Sunday, perfect for a run πŸŒ§οΈπŸ™‚

The chances of getting wet today, definitely likely, the days of doing my C25K runs, staying dry a long distant memory. I've learned rain is definitely a runners ally βœ….

As IannodaTruffe regularly tells people, skins waterproofπŸ‘ so folks get wet it's sooo beneficial.

Since reading a HU post, I've been trying (nearly successfully) to run in different zones..... generally zone 3 and learning to slow my running pace. The runs have been so enjoyable, definitely getting exercise and at the same time not feeling like I'm overdoing it πŸ“‰πŸ“Š .

Today I think probably prompted by the cold and damp, I set off, after a slow warm up jog from the house.. I almost immediately felt like I was running too fast, tried to reel it in a little but the weather said nooooo, keep warm run faster. The running felt fluent and easy and even when the rain came down heavily after about 6k i was settled into a steady pace, garmin told me I'd moved from zone 3 to 4 (threshold zone) so ok that's not too bad a thing. The breathing was easier even though it's a cold day.

Had to avoid my aqueduct route as a pushchair convoy was going to cause a running dilemma, so after a short steepish downhill section, the last klm was a gradual incline back uphill towards home, oh well it's a hill...

"I love a hill" I told myself and glided up it quite effortlessly πŸ’ͺπŸ‘.

Bonus was a 10k pb but more importantly managing to run over 100klms in a month something I've not managed since April.....

A decent Sunday free of bling 🀫 but that's ok.....

Enjoy those weekend runs folks stay safe keep healthy πŸ‘

Well done on your 10k pb . Isn't it great when you just glide up those hills πŸ‘πŸ‘

β€’ in reply toBuddy34

I really thought I'd not done the pb but garmin corrected me πŸ‘

I was out today (drenched again) You would have flown past me.

You are like Speedy Gonzales these days. 🀣

Yaaaaaaaay at least I never got wet alone Jell6...... I'd have slowed down and held an β˜‚οΈ for ya πŸ‘

Sounds a great run! Your positivity shines through πŸ˜„

I'm on a rest day free of running tomorrow ( which means I'll definitely fidget 🀭) but my next runs slow again

Do you normally run across the aqueduct? It is one of the things I am most proud of, that I inched my way across it and back one summer, without having a total meltdown.😡 Wonderful and terrifying in equal measure 😁

β€’ in reply togrumpyoldgirl

Nooooo it's Soo magical grumpyoldgirl, I'm normally running across it most weeks, though night runs are a whole new sensation 😬

It is beautiful that's for sure. And terrifying. If it wasn't for everybody else strolling casually across, I would have crossed it on hands and knees! πŸ˜‚ Maybe I'll be braver next time πŸ€”πŸ€ž

β€’ in reply togrumpyoldgirl

Be brave grumpyoldgirl it's not that bad and definitely doesn't wobble when you're on it πŸ‘ though it's a worry when it's breezy πŸ™ƒ

Brilliant run and time. Glad you like wet running, it’s very helpful if you live in Wales πŸ˜‚. Wish I loved it though.

Wow! Congrats on the PB! You are a speedy hare for sure!

β€’ in reply toSaskAlliecat

It's so strange that running slower, learning to run in different zones can have the effect of improving your running in strange ways, tis a mystery Sask

I can't wait to explore that mystery. I'm quite excited to participate in this HR monitoring and see what it does. I'm sure it will be frustrating at first but it will be a fun experiment for the winter for me.

β€’ in reply toSaskAlliecat

It really does tweak things SaskAlliecat, though my garmin had preset heartrates so they weren't quite right for me, I followed advice and altered them and it works better πŸ‘

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10β€’ in reply to

I remember people mentioning that in previous posts I've read so I've already found a quick and dirty field test to determine my max HR. Well I actually found 2 different tests πŸ€“. I'll do the shorter of the 2 and see what number it gives me.

β€’ in reply toSaskAlliecat

Cracking plan Sask, I'd say after tweaking mine isn't far off now, before my heartrate was through the roof on runs, I know it's not as accurate as probably a heart rate strap but near enough suits me βœ…

I was out in wet Wales too and embrace the rain too! Thanks for posting about how you're using HR ....I'm working towards my 10k badge and just starting to read all these posts about this! Interesting.... I don't have a garmin so am going to research what I can do with my limited kit!

β€’ in reply toCowladyrunning

Great stuff CowladyrunningπŸ‘ good luck on that 10k badge I'm sure it's doable

Well done. Great run. Great time πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸΌ

β€’ in reply toRaspberrypink

Thank you Raspberrypink, it was a nice run, ok so it rained πŸ™„πŸŒ§οΈ but I like that on a run

That's a brilliant 10k time πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ your monthly mileage total is terrific too. It's the consistency that underpins it all. It's great to have a blow out too from time to time. I think you've earned the right to run how you like to.

β€’ in reply to

Cheers Dean πŸ‘ I'm liking the science ( without spreadsheets) of the slowing my runs down, just need to get a few more longer runs in!! but hey all in good time no pressure. But you're right it was good to let loose and just kick back and run buddy
