A Wet Lunchtime Run and The Wreck of The Hesperus Version 2

I'm beginning to think AccuWeather is waging a personal vendetta against me! I checked just before lunchtime - "Rain starting in 90 minutes" it said. Plenty of time to get kitted up, warmed up and out! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ Tights long sleeved top and buff sunvisor.

My free trial subscription to Amazon Music Unlimted has expired so I no longer have access to my ELO playlist ๐Ÿ˜ข I set a different one going - a mix of 80s stuff - Blondie, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Human League etc. Warm up walk over I start running.

No - not again! That's rain I can feel! AccuWeather said it wasn't going to rain yet!๐Ÿคฌ

I carry on along my usual route of late - I've planned to do a faster (for me) 4k run today and then a 1.5k slow jog/walk back home for my cooldown. Actually the rain is still a medium drizzle and it's keeping me cool so I don't really mind.

Reaching the Leisure Centre the drizzle has turned to heavy rain. I see a dog walker in the distance and just one other person walking towards the housing estate very rapidly, hood up, shoulders hunched. Everyone else has more common sense!

I reach 4k and stop my watch. I am really wet by this stage and now I'm 1.5K from home. I consider standing in the shelter of the Leisure Centre and calling Mr B to come and pick me up in the car. But I'm already soaked so I restart my watch to log the walk/jog home and set off at a brisk walk which soon turns to a jog - even though it's uphill most of the way. I'm getting a bit chilled now and just want to get home.

Mr B opens the front door for me and says "Oh - is it raining?"

Harrumph! ๐Ÿ˜ค

I strip out of my dripping wet kit and Mr B gives me a towel to dry my hair. Jools2020 I most definitely look like The Wreck of the Hesperus!!

Just enough time to get dressed, stretches done and some home-made swiss chard, squash and butter bean soup (jazzed up with some dried chilli flakes) and hair tidied up a bit before my afternoon meeting.

I'm pretty happy with this run - a sub-30 minute 4K - and Strava gives me a personal record for 2 miles. Mr Garmin must be ever so slightly impressed as he increases my VO2max by all of one point! ๐Ÿ˜

My next run has to be a dry one - doesn't it?

Well, for starters I think I was definitely more โ€˜wreckedโ€™ than you ๐Ÿ˜‚ Youโ€™re certainly not having much luck with the weather, though!

I think you might have missed an opportunity with your playlist - Iโ€™m sure I read that you can download music from Amazon Unlimited so you have it at the end of the trial period for use with Amazon Prime.

Well done for your sub 30 minute 4K and your PB for 2 miles. Our pace is very similar right now.

It looks better in the photo than it was in actuality. There was much more frizz than you can see. Today was by far the wettest I have been on a run though.

I'm really tempted to try your 3k idea for my short run next week and see what happens to my vo2max. I just need to map out a route that finishes closer to home. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Once youโ€™re soaked, you canโ€™t get any wetter ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yes, try a 3K run. Plan it from the start - if Iโ€™d known I would have run a faster first km to make the whole run more of a workout, ๐Ÿ˜Š

We've been lucky to avoid the snow so far just a sprinkling that didn't really settle. Let's see what the weekend has in store for us but I was hoping for a longer run at some point

Not sure about liking them but I might start growing webs between my fingers and toes๐Ÿ˜Who knows what Mr Garmin might think. It will be interesting to find out

Haha had to laugh with hubby stating the obvious. I find the BBC weather is quite accurate - unfortunately it can't actually stop the rain though which would be nice.
