5k PB - new shoes!

So I bought a pair of Brooks online during lockdown and have run 200k in them since. But as a new runner I had no idea if they were right. No blisters, no pain. So they seemed OK.

BUT today I went to get a proper fitting. And discovered my Brooks are 1/2 a size too big. And the inserts I was using were overcorrecting overpronation, possibly causing some IT band tightness.

Walked away with some new Hoka shoes in a slightly smaller size, with some soft arch supports. And promptly ran my 5k PB!

1. Shaved nearly 2 minutes off my time - sub 41 minutes (yes, I'm slow, but that was fast for me!)

2. My pace was similar for every split instead of getting slower and slower with each km.

3. My cadence was very slightly faster, and my stride was a little longer.

So happy! Hope to run 7k on Monday...

Can't say I love the color of the shoes but there wasn't any choice...

I think those shoes are nice, well done on running your 5K PB 🏃🏾👍

I'm more of a hot pink or bright purple kind of girl, so they are a bit bland for my taste. But they'll do even if they don't go with any of my running clothes!

Love the shoes - and I like the colour, too!

But more importantly, they are right for you and seem to be correcting some of the issues you’ve been having, which is great news! No wonder you’re feeling happy 👍😃

Well done for the 5K PB as well! 🥳

Yes. Gaviota. They feel quite different to anything else I have worn. But I think they are going to be brilliant.

Oh I’ve been thinking I should go and get properly fitted, was it at a general sports shop or shoe shop?

Superhack - it was a running shop. Iam in the US (Philadelphia) and there are half a dozen within 45 minutes of my house. So I asked around (a lot of my colleagues run) and chose the one with the best rep. They aren't doing treadmill gait analyses at the moment so I just ran up and down the shop in bare feet so they could evaluate what shoes would work.

Ah okay thanks so much, I’ll see what’s close to me.

Great way to christen new shoes WeavingWonk! Are they grey or green? Perhaps you could get some really colourful laces to brighten them up - although they look ok to me! Happy running!

They're pale mint green. Gray would have been preferable!

Ooh, that sounds nice! Not grey though - far too dull! Enjoy running in them!
